Shining Star Winner - Jessica Garara

Jess has been teaching D&T/STEM for 15 years and has continued to have a significant impact on students and schools she has worked with/for. As a direct result of her leading and innovating at school level, she has successfully supported 35 students to win awards across regional and state competitions. Her work in the classroom continues with percentage increase of females opting for D&T/STEM electives each year. The past 3 years rate of increase: 2021 9%, 2022 16%, 2023 35%.
Jess is passionate about learning and loves to ensure everything she delivers is accessible for all learners. This drive has seen her support peers in developing their own teaching style to ensure no learner is left behind. She believes we all have the right to a good education, no matter where you come from.
Whilst work is her passion, family is equally vital, sharing her successes with her 2 beautiful children and supportive husband. With them behind her, she says she can do anything!

Rising Star Winner - Dr Roslyn London

Roslyn started her role as STEM Co-ordinator in 2023 teaching her one and only Digital Technology class in 2021, moving into teaching STEM later that same year. After joining Balga Senior High School during its infancy of engaging in STEM education, she assumed the lead in 2023 and played a pivotal role in implementing Balga’s STEM strategy. Her capacity to adapt programs to meet the needs of students, and maximise engagement has been reflected by the maintenance of over 70% attendance and enrolment in our after school STEM club. She believes equipping students with the tools to critically evaluate information and construct their own knowledge is paramount in today's rapidly evolving world. She is an advocate for educational equity, which is rooted in her own academic journey, where she recognised the necessity of independent learning to achieve success.

Congratulations Dr Roslyn London!
