The Sensory Play and Superhero themes over the past few weeks have been a wonderful success, creating opportunities for creativity, imaginative storytelling, exploration and positive interactions among the children.

The Sensory Play experiences were especially popular, with children enjoying slime, playdough, face-mask making, kinetic sand and science-based explorations. These hands-on activities encouraged curiosity, creativity, collaboration and lots of joyful engagement.

Our Superhero theme was also awesome! The children loved sharing their superhero adventures, experiences and imaginative stories with us. It was wonderful to listen to their ideas, encourage their storytelling and see them confidently connect and engage with each other through imaginative play.

Our centre has also had a fantastic overhaul and feels completely refreshed and rebuilt for the children. The outdoor playground now offers more exciting games and activities, while the indoor environment is more inviting, fun and engaging. Together, these changes have created a welcoming environment where children can play, explore, create, share their ideas and build meaningful connections with one another.

We are now two weeks into Term 3, and our children have been busy enjoying a wide range of engaging experiences at After School Care. They have been creating, storytelling, building their spelling skills, and enjoying friendly competitions with their peers.

Our Space Mission theme has been a huge success, encouraging children to collaborate, share ideas, help one another, and develop new skills through imaginative play and teamwork. Slime-making has also been a favourite activity, bringing plenty of laughter and fun!

Of course, our delicious afternoon tea and favourite foods continue to be a highlight, keeping everyone happy, energised, and ready for more adventures.

Vacation Care Program Reflection – My Time, Our Place V2.0

Our two-week Vacation Care program provided children with a wide range of engaging experiences that promoted wellbeing, creativity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging. Through exciting incursions, excursions, and hands-on activities, children strengthened friendships, built confidence, and explored new interests in a safe and supportive environment.

Highlights included a trip to the movies, laser tag, Zone Bowling, a reptile encounter, a mini circus, NAIDOC Week experiences, under-the-sea craft activities, jellyfish creations, outdoor games, sandcastle building, and making soft, fluffy cushions. Children also enjoyed healthy snacks of fresh fruits and vegetables alongside special holiday treats.

These experiences supported the My Time, Our Place V2.0 Learning Outcomes by:

* Outcome 1 – Children have a strong sense of identity: Children developed confidence, independence, and positive relationships through shared play and teamwork.
* Outcome 2 – Children are connected with and contribute to their world: NAIDOC Week activities encouraged respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, while collaborative experiences fostered inclusion and a sense of community.
* Outcome 3 – Children have a strong sense of wellbeing: Active play, outdoor games, laser tag, bowling, and nutritious food choices promoted physical health, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.
* Outcome 4 – Children are confident and involved learners: Children explored, experimented, solved problems, and expressed creativity through crafts, construction, imaginative play, and new experiences.
* Outcome 5 – Children are effective communicators: Throughout the program, children shared ideas, cooperated with peers, expressed themselves creatively, and built communication skills during play and group activities.

Overall, the Vacation Care program offered meaningful opportunities for children to learn through play, build lasting friendships, develop new skills, and create happy memories in a fun, engaging, and inclusive environment.

Final Fortnight of ASC – Fun and Games Theme

To wrap up the second term of our After School Care program, our final fortnight’s theme was Fun and Games. The children enthusiastically participated in a wide variety of engaging activities that encouraged teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and active play.

Some of the favourite activities included Duck, Duck, Goose, Musical Chairs, Charades, Balloon Volleyball, a Spelling Bee competition, Grounders, running games, monkey bars and swings, construction building, mazes, and many other fun challenges.

Throughout the fortnight, the children were actively engaged in learning through play. They explored new ideas, challenged themselves, invented creative solutions, collaborated with their peers, and strengthened existing friendships while forming new ones. The program promoted confidence, communication, resilience, and teamwork in a fun and inclusive environment.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of Term 2, with lots of laughter, energy, and memorable moments shared by everyone. We look forward to another exciting term filled with new adventures, learning, and fun.

This week, our program theme has been Families, with children and staff sharing stories and experiences about their own families.

The children enjoyed creating family figures using recycled materials, encouraging creativity and conversations about the people who are important to them. We also enjoyed lots of yummy favourite foods for afternoon tea and continued monitoring our garden, observing the progress of our growing vegetables.

A generous donation of fleece fabric allowed the children to give old cushions a new life by redesigning and refreshing them. Throughout the week, children were creative, engaged in meaningful learning experiences, and had lots of fun playing, collaborating, and learning from their friends.

Over the past two weeks, the children have been actively engaged in a variety of learning experiences at After School Care. They participated in storytelling and discussions about Reconciliation, exploring why it is important to learn about, understand, and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.

The children also discussed seasonal changes and weather conditions, learning about the importance of healthy eating, self-care, and looking after their wellbeing during the colder months. Their play experiences with friends have been fun, engaging, and supportive of positive social connections.
