You cannot learn self-regulation without first experiencing co-regulation.

For many neurodivergent or trauma-affected folks, our nervous systems are wired differently. Mainstream self-help often doesn’t meet us where we are.

True growth isn’t just about knowing what to do, it’s about feeling safe enough to let change in.

In my latest article, I explore why co-regulation is the foundation for self-regulation, and how the nervous system can learn safety, even later in life.

"Self-compassion.
Self-acceptance.
Self-love.
Self-forgiveness.

These words echo constantly through self-development spaces, spoken with reverence and certainty. But for many of us, they feel more like locked doors than open invitations."

I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since the very first edition of Soapbox (aka Dump Club)— when I asked myself what it might look like to create a truly neurodivergent-centred space: low-demand, scaffolded, and celebratory.

I’m a little misty-eyed (and also thrilled) to announce that I’m now handing the reins over to the community — specifically, two regular infodumpers, Lana & James, who’ve believed in the idea just as passionately as I have. They will be hosting the next event on Wednesday 23 July and you can register here: https://events.humanitix.com/soapbox-session-july-sq8gks5d

This group has been one of the most meaningful things I’ve co-created and been part of. Working with my co-host and long-time friend, Yaj, has been a dream. It’s genuinely the Soapbox community who shaped the space — and it feels exactly right that it will now be sustained by the people who made it what it is. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s been part of it and I'm excited to remain part of the community as an attendee.

As for what's next for me — I’m returning to the written word.

This past year, I’ve been continuing on the journey of healing and re-orienting. Trying to answer questions like: What do I need? What can I change about myself and my environment, and what do I need to practice accepting? What do I want to spend my finite days doing — and what’s actually sustainable?

I’ve had the luxury to experiment with different ideas (some wildly different!), experience a few flops, gain a heap of new self-knowledge, and yes — there’s been therapy. So much therapy.

Sometimes I wish I could just move in a straight line, like everyone else seems to. But when I step back, I see a spiral not an endless loop — taking the long way around, yes, but always circling closer to something true. Again and again, I return to the same themes: healing, growing, and cultivating internal safety — especially through the lens of nervous system science and neurodivergent lived experience.

I’ve started publishing my thoughts on Substack. You can read my first post here: https://neurocraft.substack.com/p/the-tyranny-of-the-present-moment

It’s still early days, but this is where I’ll be writing more regularly. No motivational quotes or reductionistic how-tos — just nuanced, compassionate and science-based reflections on what I've learned about healing and living more gently with myself.
