That nursery rhyme might be doing more than you think…

Music is more than something we sing for fun – it can create meaningful opportunities for connection, communication and early childhood development.

Through singing, movement and musical play, children can explore new ways to:
✨ Build confidence
🎶 Develop communication and social skills
🤝 Connect with parents, caregivers and others
💃 Explore movement and coordination
❤️ Engage, participate and have fun together

At Noro, our community music programs use music as a way to support connection, participation and development in the early years.

If you’re a music therapist, therapy assistant, program facilitator, or music educator, your voice works harder than almost anyone else’s in the building.

Your voice is at the centre of everything you do – every session, every connection, every moment of music shared with someone who needs it. It’s easy to assume it will simply keep going, but like any well-used instrument, it responds to the care you give it.

Here are 7 practical ways to protect your voice. If you have any concerns about your voice, come and have a chat with us. Together, we can find the best solution for you.

Our Music & Movement sessions – behind all that fun sits real expertise. Music & Movement is designed by Noro’s Registered Music Therapists and delivered by our trained Therapy Assistants – inducted, supported and supervised by an RMT. The clinical thinking shapes every session; the delivery is warm, energetic and consistent.

That model is deliberate. It lets us bring regular, frequent sessions to more of your residents at a more accessible cost than one-to-one clinical music therapy – without losing the structure and intent that make it work. And for residents with more complex needs, our Registered Music Therapists are right there to provide individual clinical music therapy as a separate service.

Everyone can take part at their own level – no skill, no musical background, no pressure. Familiar, era-right music and simple, repeatable movements create a calm, predictable and engaging experience. A scarf to follow, a steady beat to hold, a chorus that surfaces from deep memory: it’s a non-pharmacological way to support mood, ease responsive behaviours, and reconnect residents with themselves and each other.

Have you ever noticed "Capo 2" or "Capo 4" written at the top of a song and wondered what it means? 🎸

Sometimes a song is written in a key that's difficult to sing or play using simple chords. A capo is a small clamp that fits across the guitar neck and raises the pitch of all the strings, so the guitar sounds higher.

The clever part? You can still use the same easy chord shapes, but the song is now in a different key that's more comfortable for the singer.

For example, if a song says "Capo 2", place the capo just behind the 2nd fret, then play the chords shown. The guitar will sound two semitones higher, making it easier to match the singer's voice without learning new chord shapes.

It's a simple little tool that makes playing, singing, and enjoying music much more accessible—especially when you're learning.
