We’re all in for reconciliation 🖤💛❤️

National Reconciliation Week is a time for our community to walk together in truth, respect, and understanding. From 27 May to 3 June, we honour the strength, resilience, and continuing cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while recognising the importance of sharing our stories, voices, and histories 🌿🤝

For our communities, reconciliation means being heard, respected, and valued, not only during this week, but every day. It is about acknowledging the past and creating a future where our cultures, knowledge, and contributions are celebrated and embraced.

Real reconciliation happens when communities come together. Real change starts with all of us.

Today, we observe National Sorry Day to remember the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families and communities. For Narang Bir-rong and all the ACCOHS and NGO’s in our sector, this day holds profound significance.

It reminds us of the deep historical injustices and the ongoing, intergenerational trauma faced by Aboriginal people and their Kinship system. We recognise our shared responsibility to learn from the past and actively prevent the over-representation of Aboriginal children in our care system. Our commitment today- and every day- is to prioritise culturally safe practices, uphold the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle, and support healing to our children, their parents, carers and the wider community.

I am very grateful to the staff and their families that support the work you all do, day in and day out to care for our children and young people at Narang Bir-rong.

Today, on National Sorry Day, we honour and remember the Stolen Generations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, culture, and Country.

We pay our deepest respects to survivors, Elders, and families who continue to carry the impacts of these policies and whose strength and resilience continue to inspire generations.

Sorry Day is a time for truth-telling, reflection, and action. It reminds us of the importance of protecting cultural identity, connection, and community for Aboriginal children and families. Culture is healing. Culture is belonging. Culture is strength.

Today, we stand together in remembrance, solidarity, and commitment to a future where Aboriginal children grow up safe, connected to culture, and surrounded by community. 🖤💛❤️

At Narang Bir-rong, we believe that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in OOHC deserve to maintain strong connections with their siblings, whether they live together or apart, because family, connection, and a sense of belonging are deeply important to a child’s wellbeing and identity. 👣

Today we honour and celebrate all the incredible mothers in our community. 🌹

To the strong Blak women who came before us, to the mums raising the next generation, to nans, aunties, and foster carers who nurture and guide with love, we see you and we thank you.

We also hold space for the mothers of the Stolen Generations, the mums in the Dreamtime, and those working hard towards being reunited with their children. Your strength and resilience do not go unnoticed.

Happy Mother’s Day 🖤💛❤️

45% isn’t just a statistic - it’s a call to action.

Understanding the why behind this number is the first step toward meaningful change. Statistics tell a story, and this one speaks to the urgent need for stronger support, culturally safe care, and better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. 🖤💛❤️

Together, we can help build stronger families, stronger communities, and a stronger future.

Yesterday, our Cultural Connections Cultural Hub group began painting a mural at Penrith PCYC!

Each week, we’ll be working alongside children and young people from PCYC, coming together to create a mural that reflects our community and culture.

We can’t wait to watch it come to life and share the final piece with you, stay tuned! 👀🖤💛❤️
