The body of a 7 year old girl has been recovered over 5 hours after she drowned in a Queensland river near Brisbane.
A boy is recovering in hospital after he was rescued from the water.
Hope the boy makes a full recovery, my heart goes out their families, the rescuers and the medical staff.
It is school holidays in many states, please be vigilant around all water sources. Drownings don’t just happen in Summer, we are half way through Autumn. Drownings occur throughout the seasons of the year.

A seven-year-old girl has tragically drowned while swimming at a popular river in Ipswich, west of Brisbane, yesterday, while a school-aged boy was rescued from the water and has been hospitalised in a stable condition.

Emergency services were called to Colleges Crossing Recreation Reserve in Chuwar just after 5pm following reports a young girl had failed to resurface from the river, with police divers recovering her body shortly before 10.30pm.

20 years ago today Samuel Morris had a non-fatal drowning in a back yard pool. Samuel was left severely disabled for nearly 8 years and died in 2014.
Samuel would’ve been turning 23 years of age this year.
Please watch your children around all water sources, put your children into swimming lessons, make sure pools are fenced, check and maintain pool fences and pool gates yearly, when in the water your child should be at arms reach, never leave your child in the bath alone, tip out buckets etc after rain.

Today is 12 years since Samuel Morris passed away at the young age of 10.8 years old.

Samuel had a non fatal drowning on the 9th of April 2006 at the tender age of 2.6 years old.

Samuel was left with an hypoxic brain injury and survived with severe disabilities 20 years ago.

Samuel survived for nearly 8 years after his accident.

Samuel would have been turning 23 years old this year in August.

Please make sure you put your children into learn to swim classes,
watch your children around all water sources ( baths, buckets, eskys, fish tanks, pools, dams, ponds, creeks, rivers, oceans, boats, etc ),
Be at arms reach when your child is in the water,
Fence your pool,
Check your pool fence and pool gate regularly,
Learn CPR.

Over Australia’s Summer there have been 72 drownings since the 1st of December. There are 3 weeks left of Summer but warm weather is expected in Autumn also so please stay safe around all water sources.

Royal Life Saving Australia’s National Summer Drowning Toll shows that 77 people have drowned since 1 December, with three weeks remaining until the official end of summer.

If it’s flooded, forget it.
Do not drive through flooded roadways, you put yourself and your passengers lives at risk of drowning. You also put your rescuers lives at risk.

A 4 year old boy suffered a non-fatal drowning in a Port Stephens pool. His family members performed CPR. He was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he passed away.
Our hearts go out to this little boys family, the paramedics and the hospital staff who all tried to save the 4 year old.
It’s a heat wave across Australia so please stay cool but please stay within arms reach from all young children in and around ALL water sources.

Drowning can change everything in seconds
Dr.Beachgem10 is an emergency Doctor in a paediatric hospital in Florida USA. She talks about her experience with fatal and non fatal drowning patients in emergency. You can see that a pediatric drowning affects her deeply as it would all healthcare professionals and emergency service 1st responders.
Please learn CPR, fence your pool with a workable gate, get your children into swimming lessons, dont use swimming aides such as Floaties, have a designated water watcher, swim at arms length, swim between the flags at beaches, watch children around all water sources, dont leave children alone in baths, tip out all water containers in backyard after rain.

Australia has tight rules about pool fencing, these rules don’t apply to other countries that many Australians visit for their holidays. Please take extra precautions when on holidays with your family around all water sources. Even though you are holidaying, you can’t relax around water with young children.
Our hearts go out to this family for the loss of their precious daughter.
