A great read from Rabobank Australia about one of our dairy farmers, the Zweck family in Clare and their journey establishing a compost barn and robotic dairy.

An ambitious plan to invest in a modern compost barn and robotic dairy has driven production, and lifestyle, gains well beyond expectation.

📢 Tomorrow is Census Day
If you didn't complete your Census yet, take a moment to accurately describe what you do, not just where you work.

Being specific about your occupation helps build a clearer picture of Australia's dairy workforce and contributes to better workforce planning, education, funding and industry representation.

Every response matters. Help make sure the Australian dairy industry is counted accurately.

For information and guidance on completing your Census, visit the Australian Bureau of Statistics Census Help Centre.

For general information and advice on how to respond, check out the ABS Census help resources: https://info.census.abs.gov.au/.../occupation-and-duties

Need help moo-ving? 🐮 In the early hours of Friday morning, SES crews from Salisbury State Emergency Service and Gawler State Emergency Service alonsgide Springton SA Country Fire Service were called by a property owner to rescue an 800kg steer, Mooch, who had been stuck in the mud for over four hours!

Thankfully Mooch was successfully unstuck from the mud hole, with SES crews using a harness to help lift the animal out.

To find out more about Large Animal Rescue, and the other capabilities our volunteers are trained in, visit ses.sa.gov.au/about-us/what-we-do/

Coming to Mt Gambier!

A well-managed transition period can set cows up for better health, stronger production and improved reproductive performance.

Transition cow management has become an important part of dairy nutrition and can deliver benefits across cow welfare, milk production and farm performance.

Join Feedworks nutritionist Pip Gale for a practical workshop focused on transition cow management in pasture-based systems. Drawing on his experience across Australian and New Zealand dairy systems, Pip will cover milk fever prevention, developing and implementing an effective transition feeding program, and identifying and troubleshooting common feeding issues.

When urea is not readily available, alternative nitrogen sources may be considered.

To help assess suitable options for your farming system, Dairy Australia has developed the Nitrogen Cost & Feed Comparison tool to support feed and fertiliser decisions.

This tool assists in comparing and identifying the most cost-effective solutions for farm businesses and can be accessed here: https://enlight.dairyaustralia.com.au/mod/scorm/view.php?id=8411
