National Reconciliation Week is here (27 May – 3 June). 🖤💛❤️
These dates are a powerful bookend in our nation's history, marking the 1967 Referendum and the historic Mabo decision. For us in the support and disability space, this week is a beautiful reminder that true inclusion must always go hand-in-hand with reconciliation. 🤝🌿
First Nations Australians experience disability at more than twice the rate of non-Indigenous Australians. That means our commitment to the NDIS choice-and-control philosophy must include providing culturally safe, respectful, and accessible support that honours connection to family and Country.
How can we take action together?
✅ Listen and learn: Explore First Nations histories and stories using accessible formats, plain language, or visual aids so everyone can participate.
✅ Support Indigenous-led spaces: Choose Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses for resources, sensory tools, and community programs.
✅ Honour the land: Take time during support walks to learn about the Kaurna land we stand on here in Adelaide and its deep history.
Let’s turn our awareness into everyday action. What step will you and your team take this week?
