Penneshaw Market

Penneshaw Market Community market for Kangaroo Island arts, crafts, plants, speciality regional foods.

25/02/2026

The weather has been very variable this season requiring us to fall back to Penneshaw Hall for shelter from the elements. Tomorrow's weather is milder but with thunderstorms on the horizon, we will again provide a cruise ship market from the hall to welcome passengers from Zaandam to Kangaroo Island.
As the weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday is for extremely heavy rain and thunderstorms, the community market for Sunday has been cancelled for safety reasons.
We are expecting this to clear for the arrival of the Discovery Princess on Wednesday 4th March when the market is expected to be able to set up on the Oval to welcome passengers.
All are welcome to cruise ship markets - open from 9 am - 1 pm.

Sadly the sea conditions were not appropriate for the tenders to operate and the passengers on the Silver Moon were not able to experience a day on Kangaroo Island. This vessel is returning on Friday 6th February, although with another complement of passengers and the market stallholders will be on stand by for a successful weather event.
The Vasco da Gama is scheduled to arrive on Saturday 7th February which will coincide with a cricket match on Penneshaw Oval so the market will continue to operate from Penneshaw Hall. As this vessel is not scheduled to moor until 12:00, this will be an afternoon market from 12:00 p.m. - 4 p.m.

The market set up in Penneshaw Hall today as the cricket match had priority use of the Oval. Even though the weather was not as windy as forecast, the hall is a very welcoming environment to browse local production and jewellery. As the stalls were all set up, we are opening again to welcome passengers from the Silver Moon arriving tomorrow. Come in to discover our town hall, take a seat and relax and enjoy the day.

🕯️ National Day of Mourning | Thursday 22 January 2026 🕯️

Kangaroo Island Council joins communities across Australia in observing a National Day of Mourning to honour the victims and all those impacted by the Bondi Beach terrorist attack.

As a mark of respect, the Australian National Flag will be flown at half mast throughout the day on Thursday 22 January 2026.

Australians are also invited to take part in a moment of quiet reflection by observing a minute of silence at 7.01 pm AEDT, and by lighting a candle at their doorstep or window as a symbol of remembrance, unity and hope.

The theme chosen by the Bondi community, Light will win, reminds us of the strength found in coming together, even in times of deep sadness.

Our thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and communities affected by this tragic event.
