Tony Windberg 'Flower Power ' Workshops - Term 2

🌸There’s more to this subject than just flowers in a vase! We’ll look at how other artists have turned floral conventions on their head, like Australian contemporary artist Tim Maguire with his colossal reinterpretations of 17th century Dutch still life painting…

🌸We’ll play with similar lifting and reduction techniques, then explore some other painting approaches old and new, including building up a still life painting (yes, flowers in a vase 😊) from loose to tight in thick blocks of colour. And for some impasto inspiration, a side trip to the world of van Gogh (Sunflowers and Irises).

🌸We’ll cover composition and ways of transferring reference images onto a canvas such as gridding up techniques.

🌸In observing light and shade, we’ll also look at how to create the illusion of translucency in petals and foliage and how to make colours really pop and zing, using complementary contrasts and the technique of ‘selective glazing’.

🌸As well as these exercises, there’ll be a generous spattering of fun painting ‘warm-ups’ designed to ‘loosen up, free up and speed up’! After this, you’ll put all this into practice with a main painting in the final weeks.

🌸April 23 – June 25 (10 sessions)
Thursdays
$250 (byo paints – oils or acrylics)

🌸Book your place online: BSB 306-032 Acct # 0143041 (please email me to notify payment) or email and pay cash on day

Tricia Reust - Art Workshops

4th May: Using Drawings on Canvas, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
We will create a collage on canvas including drawings as collage elements with a trees/leaves/flowers theme; stencil; and complete the work with more line drawing and colour. The process will include how to prepare drawings for use as collage.

5th May: Texture on Paper, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
This is a workshop to expand the use of pastel. We will look at brief theory of landscape; how pastel can be used as a wet medium for an underpainting; and texturing paper for pastel. Participants can choose to work in a traditional manner or a more contemporary approach. Tricia’s teaching process includes theory, handouts and demonstrations.

Venue: Balang Mia Community Arts Hub, Pemberton (opposite the Post Office, parking on Hepple Place in front of art room)
