The beautiful image of a blue sunset over Mars represents a historic milestone in space exploration, captured by NASA’s Curiosity rover inside Gale Crater.

This photograph marks the first time humans have witnessed twilight on another planet.

The difference between sunsets on Mars and Earth comes down to atmospheric physics.

On Earth, our thick atmosphere scatters blue light away during the day, letting red and orange wavelengths dominate the horizon at sunset.

Mars operates in reverse. During the Martian day, the sky looks pinkish-red because of fine iron oxide dust hanging in the thin atmosphere.

However, as the sun sinks low, these dust particles scatter the blue light forward, creating a soft blue glow around the solar disk. Because Mars sits much farther from the sun than Earth, the sun appears noticeably smaller.

This view was captured by Curiosity, a large rover that landed on the Red Planet over twelve years ago.

Engineered for a short mission, the machine still drives, photographs, and sends data across millions of kilometers of deep space, delivering a cosmic view that every past generation missed by just a sliver of time.

He didn't hand you a manual. He just handed you the wrench and crouched down beside you on the cold garage floor.

The lesson was never really about the car. It was about patience — how you don't force a bolt that won't turn, how you wipe your hands on a rag and think before you pull, how a problem that looks impossible usually just needs someone who's been there before to quietly show you the angle. That little boy holding the wrench with both hands isn't learning mechanics. He's learning what a man looks like when he shows up.

Some classrooms smell like grease and motor oil.

The most important things we were ever taught came from someone who got down to our level and never made us feel small for not knowing yet.

59 years ago today, Australians took part in the 1967 Referendum, with an overwhelming 90.77 per cent voting yes for change.

The vote removed discriminatory references in the Constitution relating to Aboriginal people, marking a pivotal moment in Australia’s history.

Records in the national archival collection capture the story behind the referendum—from Cabinet discussions and government decision-making through to the conduct of the vote itself.

Together, they offer insight into how this historic change was shaped and delivered across government.

On the 26th of May 1967, The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band first went on sale in the UK, ahead of its officially scheduled release.

Created by pop artist Peter Blake and artist Jann Haworth, the iconic album sleeve brought together a collage of cultural icons, historical figures and celebrities. The elaborate set of life-sized cut-outs was photographed by Michael Cooper, with The Beatles standing at its centre.

Often described as one of the most influential album covers ever made, the artwork blurred the boundaries between music, art and popular culture. Permissions had to be secured for many of the recognisable faces featured on the sleeve.

Nearly six decades later, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band remains a landmark of 1960s pop art and visual storytelling.
