ACT Statement on the 2025 WASSCE Results in Liberia
The release of the 2025 WASSCE results in Liberia paints yet another grim picture of the state of our education system. While we celebrate the few students who have excelled against all odds, civil society cannot remain silent in the face of the overwhelming number of young people who continue to fall through the cracks of a broken system. The repeated cycle of mass failure is no longer an accident — it is the direct result of years of underinvestment, neglect, and lack of accountability in the education sector.
Action for Community Transformation (ACT) views these results not just as statistics, but as the shattered dreams of thousands of Liberian youths and families who place their hopes in education as a pathway to a better life. Every failed result represents a child whose opportunities are cut short, a household whose sacrifices go unrewarded, and a nation whose future workforce remains unprepared for the demands of national development. This is a crisis that Liberia can no longer afford to normalize.
We therefore call on the Government of Liberia, policymakers, and education stakeholders to treat education as a national emergency. We demand greater investment in teacher training, provision of modern learning materials, improved monitoring of schools, and a deliberate strategy to strengthen exam preparedness. At the same time, parents and communities must rise to the challenge of actively supporting their children’s education, while students themselves must commit to the discipline and seriousness required to succeed.
The WASSCE results should be a wake-up call. They must ignite urgent reforms, stronger accountability, and collective action. As civil society, ACT reaffirms our commitment to holding leaders accountable and to working with all partners to ensure that Liberian children are not condemned to repeated cycles of failure. The future of our nation depends on the quality of education we provide today.
