PARRAMATTA WOMENβS SHED FAQs
The Parramatta Womenβs Shed is a fun and welcoming community space where women can learn woodworking, work on projects and make new friends. A: We accept new members on our New Member Sessions, which we hold several times throughout the year. Please reserve your spot by booking here: https://events.humanitix.com/organisers/601dd0346b9e5e000ac20bf2
Q: When is it on? If
you need to leave earlier that's OK! Q: Where are you located? A: We work out of Telopea Shed, located on the Corner of Wade and Shortland Streets in Telopea. Q: How do I get there? A: There is ample street parking accessible by buses, and the Telopea Light Rail stop is nearby (pending launch of light rail operation). Q: How much does it cost? A: The women's shed costs $5 on the weeks that you attend. We're run by volunteers, using space kindly donated from Telopea Shed. Q: What do I need to bring? A: You need your own PPE equipment. This means earmuffs, safety glasses, facemasks and covered shoes. Please also tie long hair back. Occasionally we have supplies we can lend you, but to be COVID-safe, we recommend you bring your own. Hereβs some we recommend:
Ear Muffs: https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-ear-muffs_p5820953
Safety glasses: https://www.bunnings.com.au/eyeshields-safety-glasses_p5810665
If you already wear glasses, you do not need additional safety glasses. Q: Do I need to know woodworking already? A: You don't need to be an expert woodworker to join, as we all learn from each other as we progress. However, we find women who have had some experience using tools in the last few years enjoy their experience more. Q: What can I work on? A: We have plenty of options!
- You can work on your own projects for your personal use
- You can work on community projects (like possum boxes for bushfire impacted forests or street libraries).
- You can build items to donate to the Bower and they can find it a new home for it! Q: Can I work with machinery like dropsaws on my first visit? A: Visiting for the first time, you can get started with hand tools and drills and drivers. For larger machines like dropsaws, everyone must be trained and signed off by an experienced member of the Shed before using machinery. We're looking forward to seeing you join us!
