Every writer starts somewhere.

With a sentence.

A memory.

A question.

A voice they are still learning to trust.

Today we launch From First Words to Future Authors, our EOFY campaign supporting young people and emerging writers across Western Sydney.

Your tax-deductible gift helps writers build confidence, develop their creative voice and see their stories valued - on the page, in schools and in the wider community.

Because talent can write the first draft. Support helps it reach the world.

Donate before 30 June and help back the next chapter.

Wednesday was a big night here at WestWords. The community came together to celebrate all things WestWords with some friends, fun facts and musical interludes. We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone involved who aided the organisation and preparation for the night, especially Alan McCloud, our enigmatic Quiz Master. We were delighted to bring together so many members from our WestWords family, including our partners at Arab Bank, Business Western Sydney, Western Sydney University, board members, current and former Academians and everyone who donated prizes for the raffle. Also a massive thank you to our hosts for the wonderful venue, Parramatta Leagues Club.

It was a successful night, successfully having raised $9,074. This money will go towards allowing WestWords to keep developing literature, creativity and reading in Western Sydney through the many programs WestWords runs yearly, including our ever expanding Schools Program, growing our catalogue of adult literature books and WestWords Children’s picture books, our writing groups like Illuminated Ink and Speculative Fiction, empowering the next generation of writers through programs like WestWords Academy.

Finally, we would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who kindly donated prizes for the raffle. Thank you to our board members; Vivienne Skinner, Libby Gleeson, Brett Perry, Lucy Brotherton, Brian Cook, Jacqueline D’Warte, Laura Harris and Daniel Wakim. Thank you to Georgina Skinner, Dinosaur Designs, Massell, Mika Zammit, Business Western Sydney, Laundy Hotel, Arab Bank for your donations to the prize pool. A massive congratulations to all the various winners of the raffle, we hope you enjoy your prizes!

Thank you to everyone who attended Trivia Night and made it the fun and fantastic event that it was. See you next time!
