What a wonderful day celebrating community and connection in Wyong! The SHINE for Kids team was proud to join the festivities on the NSW Central Coast. 💜

Hosted by the Central Coast Community Legal Centre to mark its 30th anniversary, the event brought people together for music, activities, food and fun.

We loved being part of this great day and strengthening our connections with the wonderful communities we serve.

A simple idea is helping parents at Serco Asia Pacific operated Clarence Correctional Centre create more meaningful connection with their children.

Hundreds of poems are now available on tablets for mums and dads in custody to read to their children during phone and video calls - and it's been hugely popular!

Our Cairns team had the privilege of meeting with some of the team from The Indigenous Marathon Foundation! 👟✨

"We have so much admiration for the incredible work the Indigenous Marathon Foundation is doing across communities and inside centres," said a SHINE for Kids team member.

"[They are] using the power of running, connection, culture and community to inspire positive change."

"We look forward to building meaningful connections and exploring ways we can work together to support young people and communities."

“The kids enjoyed every minute!” 💛 💛 💛

Our Child & Parent Days are a highlight of the school holidays, and this latest one did not disappoint!

Games, crafts, lots of long chats and hugs - every minute was cherished by the families.

One little girl felt extra special when everyone joined in to sing her 'Happy Birthday' and she was able to celebrate this milestone with her dad. 🎉🎂🥳

Some of our brilliant team recently attended the National Justice Forum in Brisbane and shared that, "We left the Forum feeling inspired, challenged and motivated.

"What stayed with us most was that every person we heard from was, in their own way, changing lives.

"Whether through therapeutic practice, trauma-informed care, cultural connection, advocacy, rehabilitation or simply challenging the way we think about justice, these approaches demonstrate that change is possible.

"It reinforced for us that meaningful change in justice comes from being willing to look beyond the behaviour, understand the person and their story, address unmet needs and create opportunities for connection, healing and a different future.

"We are looking forward to returning to our teams and young people with this added sense of inspiration and connection."

📢 Storytime is now available at Junee!

Children can now receive a voice recording of their dad reading to them, along with the book, to help them stay connected💜

The first families to get these packages have loved them, with one mum telling our team the moment it arrived:

"I can’t wait to see the kids’ reactions 🙂 Thank you so much for this, it means a lot to all of us."

“Today was a nice way to see that we are not the only family that uses SHINE for Kids!”

Our first ‘Community Chocolate Bingo’ was a hit! 🍫

Everyone in our mentoring community could take part in the fun, including parents and siblings, and there was a great vibe in the room.

In the lead-up, this very diligent mentor made sure to ask every single child what their favourite chocolate was.💜

The games were heaps of fun and the day was filled with laughs, prizes and smiles, with one excited family even winning a trip to the zoo (huge thank you to Sydney Zoo!).

Thank you The Benevolent Society for supporting this program in NSW. 💛
