Young people with lived experience in care have told CREATE that they want to be safe, with family, and they want the system to do better.

CREATE Foundation is calling on the NT Government to listen to young people with lived experience and strengthen, not weaken, the legislation designed to protect them.

“Was the best experience I ever had.” 💜

CREATE’s 2024–26 National Experience to Action Board (Youth), NEABY, held its final meeting this week. There were many fond reflections and a few tears shed, but the sense of pride and accomplishment was palpable.

Over the past two years, NEABY has informed CREATE’s Strategic Plan and RAP, contributed to national advocacy, responded to policy reform including changes to the NDIS, and presented directly to decision-makers at Parliament House in Canberra.

Members also designed and delivered major projects including the 'Passport to Success' and Australia’s first 'Charter for Young Parents in Care' — legacies that will continue as we welcome the next round of NEABY members.

CREATE Foundation thanks this incredible group of young leaders for the impact they’ve made and for showing the power of genuine youth participation in action. 🎉

📸 Not all members pictured. We also acknowledge Tayla, Harper, Keely and Tommy for their contributions.

Our RAP Artwork Story 🌠 ‘To Create Change is to Create Impact’ is the captivating artwork created for CREATE Foundation’s RAP by Wiradjuri Artist, Leticia Forbes Yirra Miya 💜

It brings young people’s voices to the forefront and celebrates the knowledge, culture and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It also reflects our organisation’s commitment to connection, allyship and reconciliation.

Reconciliation Week is a time to come together, but proposed child protection reforms in the NT risk repeating past failures.

CREATE Foundation welcomes the Federal Government’s recent announcement of additional funding for Stolen Generations support services. But significant unfinished business remains.

Nearly three decades after the Bringing Them Home report, only 6% of recommendations have been fully implemented.

While implementing these recommendations requires national leadership, state and territory governments also have a responsibility to ensure current child protection policies do not repeat the mistakes of the past.

In the Northern Territory, proposed amendments to the Care and Protection of Children Act have raised widespread concern across the sector around consultation, self-determination and the future direction of child protection reform.

Reforms affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families must be developed in genuine partnership with communities, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and people with lived experience.

And as with all decisions affecting their lives, the voices of children and young people must be heard and centred in child protection reform.

Children in NSW deserve a system that truly protects them. 💜 Today, a coalition of First Nations, legal, child welfare and social service organisations is calling on the NSW Government to establish an independent Child Safety and Wellbeing Commission.

Countless reports and inquires highlight systemic failings and confirm existing accountability mechanisms are inadequate. Critically, the Commission would be a trusted place for families to raise concerns, make complaints and challenge decisions, independent of the government agencies that have the power to remove children.

Government intervention in the lives of children and families can be traumatic and deeply harmful. Comprehensive, independent accountability and oversight is crucial❗

We urge the NSW Government to take this opportunity to work with us to protect the rights and wellbeing of children and their families.

The call for a is supported by AbSec, CREATE Foundation, The Association of Children's Welfare Agencies, NSW Council of Social Service - NCOSS, Fams NSW, Aboriginal Legal Service and Justice and Equity Centre.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan is here! As we mark National Reconciliation Week, we are sharing this next step in our ongoing commitment to doing the work. Listening deeply, learning continuously, and acting with care. 💜

National Sorry Day 2026 marks 29 years since the tabling of the Bringing Them Home report in 1997. Nearly three decades on, only 6% of the report’s recommendations have been fully implemented (📰 https://shorturl.at/QCxdT)

This year’s National Sorry Day theme, “From Sorry to Action,” calls on governments to deliver urgent reform within survivors’ lifetimes. We join these calls because sorry without action is not enough.

Urgent action is needed to address the harm caused to Stolen Generations survivors, their families and communities, and to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children today remain connected to kin, culture and Country.
