This is Rotary Club of Parramatta November’s project. This is in line with Rotary’s Say No to Domestic Violence strategy. Giving the gift of love and hope this Christmas by dropping in bags to any bunnings Australia wide store from 14th – 30th November. These bags to help a vulnerable woman or teen.
It is great to be working with Bunnings Warehouse Australia to distribute these bags. A small project to make a big difference.
Have you ever had nowhere to turn?
[Content warning: post contains themes of domestic violence.] ♥️
When Sharon ended the relationship with her daughter's father, things turned ugly. Sharon told Rochelle he was texting her up to a 100 times a day, threatening her life and threatening to take their daughter away to be never seen again. Sharon lost all safe spaces to his control, including her mum's house. Without enough money to rent on her own she decided to call a domestic violence helpline and they arranged a safe location for her to go, so she packed what she could and got on the next train.
Her story had Rochelle in tears as Sharon described how alone she felt, not knowing where she was going to end up and not being able to tell her friends or family.
Sharon reached out to let us know that upon arriving at a refuge she'd been gifted an It's in the Bag. She said she'd been crying because she felt so alone and that the hairbrush she was gifted brought her to the foetal position. She felt like someone cared, and she felt a little bit of dignity returned, because she felt that someone thought she was worthy for the first time in years.
We are so grateful that you all share our passion to help girls and women this way. Be sure to drop your bag at Bunnings Warehouse between 14-30 November to help women like Sharon this Christmas. For more information, visit https://www.sharethedignity.org.au/itsinthebag
