Great project

Because of your support, Maya Benvenga is helping create a brighter future for Indigenous health.

Maya is a proud Gubbi Gubbi woman and a 2026 Australian Rotary Health Indigenous Health Scholarship recipient, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Rosebud-Rye.

She is studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Doctor of Medicine at Monash University.

For Maya, becoming a doctor is about much more than a career. It is about creating change.

Growing up, she saw the impact that health inequity can have on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. She also carries the legacy of family experiences shaped by the Stolen Generations and the ongoing effects of intergenerational trauma.

Those experiences have strengthened her determination to become a doctor who understands the importance of culture, trust and culturally safe healthcare.

Maya wants future generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to see themselves reflected in the healthcare workforce. To know they belong. And to know that better health outcomes are possible.

Because of supporters like you, future Indigenous health leaders are being empowered to create change in their communities and beyond.

This is the impact of Australian Rotary Health.

Rotary Club of Parramatta turned 100 years on 7th June 2026. We decided on 4 community based project to celebrate our milestone. This was our first project. 'Books for Babies' highlights the need for families enjoy the time to engage in quality family time.
It has been a great pleasure to work with Western Sydney Health in distributing 100 packs of story books.
