Orange has cemented its reputation as a national sustainability leader, taking home multiple honours at the 2026 Keep Australia Beautiful Australian Tidy Towns Sustainability Awards held in Launceston on Saturday 16 May.
Among the cityโs standout achievements was a national win for the Water Conservation & Protection Award, recognising Orange Stormwater Harvesting, an innovative project now supplying around 20 per cent of the cityโs drinking water needs through captured and treated stormwater.
Orange also won the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Award for Electrify Orange, a community-focused initiative helping households transition from gas to efficient all-electric homes powered by renewable energy.
Further recognition came through the Plastic Free Communities Award for Zest Fest โ Refills Not Landfill, which prevented an estimated 15,000 single-use cups from entering landfill at a major community event.
Adding to the cityโs success, local environmental champion Roger Smith received a Highly Commended honour in the Dame Phyllis Frost Local Hero Award for his decades-long contribution to biodiversity restoration, environmental education and community engagement across the Orange region.
