Anzac Day is marked on 25 April because that is the date Australian and New Zealand troops — the ANZACs — landed at Gallipoli in 1915, their first major military action of the First World War. The campaign was brutal, costly, and ultimately unsuccessful, but it became a defining moment in the national identities of both countries.
Anzac Day has grown from remembering the Gallipoli landing to commemorating all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.
The City of Parramatta RSL sub-Branch will commemorate this day with a commemoration service in nearby Prince Alfred Square with a Dawn Service commencing at 4.30am.
The Service will be preceded by a march from Parramatta Town Hall, stepping off at 4.10am. If marching, make sure you are in place from 4.00am. Look for the Parramatta Sub-Branch banner.
The march will move along Macquarie, Marsden and Market Streets to Church Street. The Dawn Service will commence when the marchers are in position following the march.
Please call 0418 671 397 if you have any further questions or queries.
