Master planning on the new $1.3 billion Bankstown Hospital is due to commence.
The new hospital, which will be located within the Bankstown CBD, will support the healthcare needs of one of South Western Sydney’s fastest growing and most culturally diverse communities.

With convenient access to public transport, the master plan will outline the vision for the site including an ongoing TAFE NSW presence, integration with the community and connections to local roads and existing as well as future public transport networks.

Services will continue to be delivered at the existing hospital while construction on the new hospital is underway. When the new facility is completed and services have transferred, the existing site will be considered for repurposing for health uses.

Sydney Metro West has kicked off what is set to be a huge year of tunnelling as tunnel boring machines are relaunched at the Five Dock Metro Station site.

The 1,300-tonne machines will tunnel an average of 200 metres a week to complete the second leg in their journey and are expected to break through at Burwood North in April as they continue en route to build the new metro tunnels towards Sydney Olympic Park.

In December 2023, the TBMs made tunnelling history when they arrived at Five Dock station site minutes apart to achieve the first double TBM breakthrough in the southern hemisphere.

Sydney Metro West is expected to be complete by 2032. When it opens, these fast and reliable metro services will double rail capacity between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD.

Planning for Stage 2 of the Parramatta Light Rail has been approved after a $200 million investment was made to fast track the project’s planning process.

Under the proposed development, commuters will be able to travel from Sydney Olympic Park to Camellia in around 30 minutes, and on to the Parramatta CBD in another 7 minutes.

Business Western Sydney has long been an advocate for Stage 2 of the PLR and we will be encouraging the NSW Government to firm up its construction timeline and allocate the required funding in the coming months.

The late Lang Walker AO continues to support Western Sydney with his contribution to the development and delivery of a $55 million state-of-the-art medical research facility.

The building will be home to the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research – Macarthur, delivering innovation in world leading research to improve patient outcomes with a focus on five key research areas: diabetes, mental health, indigenous health, paediatrics & child wellbeing and addiction medicine.

Today marked the first sod-turn. Once complete, researchers and clinicians will have access to the latest research technologies, laboratories and collaboration spaces, with locally based expertise to enhance community access to clinical trials.

Walker Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer David Gallant said: “Lang knew this facility would help hundreds of thousands of people for generations to come and he’d be incredibly proud to see his namesake, the Lang Walker AO Medical Research Building reach this significant milestone.”

As Penrith Beach marks 150,000 visitors, the desperate need for better utilisation of the regions waterways has become an increasingly hot topic of debate.

That’s why Business Western Sydney has formed the Western Sydney Rivers Taskforce in partnership with our members to support opening up our rivers, lakes and streams to enable greater accessibility and recreational opportunities.

Western Sydney residents shouldn’t have to drive 60km to enjoy a day by the water, bringing these amenities closer to home is our objective, and together with our BWS partners we see this as an achievable goal.

The Business Conditions Survey for the first quarter of 2024 is now open.

Business NSW conducts the Business Conditions Survey on a quarterly basis to track business confidence in NSW, and identify issues that are important to business success.

Business NSW is the peak business organisation for New South Wales representing the needs of 48,000 businesses across the state.

The survey results are a key part of the evidence base we draw upon when advocating to Government on behalf of the business community.

Our NSW Budget lunch held at the end of Budget Week in the heart of Parramatta was the first for the new Treasurer Daniel Mookhey MLC.

EY Chief Economist Cherelle Murphy provided a fantastic summary of the budget and the state's fiscal position. Centre for Western Sydney Director Dr Rhonda Itaoui shared the human side of the budget and the impact on the people of Western Sydney. While Business NSW CEO Daniel Hunter engaged the Treasurer in an entertaining Q&A including his DJ name.

Thank you to our event partners EY and Western Sydney University for their support.
