Sept 1 marks the start of the Rotary theme supporting Basic Education and Literacy Month.
In our community, we are pleased to have an ongoing relationship with The Arundel State School across many programs supporting both students and teachers.
With over 775 million people over the age of 15 known to be illiterate, throughout the world, Rotary International continues to support
Access to Education: Building schools, repairing facilities, and improving educational infrastructure in underserved regions.
Literacy for All Ages: Running programs to teach adults to read and supporting childhood literacy.
Reducing Gender Disparity: Ensuring equal access to learning opportunities for girls and women.
Teacher Support: Empowering educators through advanced training and new teaching methods.

As well as introducing our new Board members, you may want to settle in to read about the animation and special effects used in the movie BABE, as well as the Arundel State School Colour Run (see who got slimed), meet our exchange students and congratulate the wonderful work done by our local dentists at Be Dental supporting Macloeds Accommodation, supporting those affected by Domestic Violence.

Celebrating another year of Parkwood Rotary at tonight’s Changeover Dinner 💙💛

Whether it’s helping out at Arundel State School, running our local Christmas Carols, organising clean ups or feeding people who are struggling - we appreciate the countless hours Rotarians give to our community.

Thank you to outgoing President Kate Bentley for a massive year of service and welcome to this year’s President David Bisiker who’s taking on the role for a third time! 👏

Parkwood Rotary club is a small but mighty club, with 22 members, we meet regularly each Tuesday Arundel Tavern for fellowship and to serve the community.

Last night was our dinner where we acknowledge the work of the outgoing President and their board and welcome the new President and their board. Last night President Kate Bentley 2025-2026 handed over to President David Bisiker 2026-2027.

As part of the celebrations we acknowledged Rotarians within the club who have made significant contributions to our success including Leanne Chesson, Howard Morton, Karen Morton and Jeanelle Sutton-Yeomans. Thank you for your service.

We warmly welcomed Noriko Teranishi into our club last night too, as a former Rotary Youth Exchange participant we are certain Noriko will make a lasting impact in the area of Youth.

We were joined by friends, family and distinguished guests including Rob Deshon from Rotary Club of Ashmore, Liz Vance from Arundel Park Riding for Disabled Inc. PDG John Omen Ross Smith representing current DG Deb Frugtniet, Councillor Joe Wilkinson and Sam O'Connor MP.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this year and this evening a great success.

Today we said a very fond farewell to our Rotary Youth Exchange District 9640 Australia student Theo Gondolf as he makes his way home to Denmark. Theo, you have made so many lifelong friends and positively influenced not only our club and our members but also the wider community while you've been here. You have embraced every opportunity that came your way and made the absolute most of your time here in Australia 🦘 🌏. From us, it's not goodbye, it's only until we see you again! Last night we were privileged to hear from Angie Bell MP. Apart from being an Australian politician who has been a member of the House of Representatives since the 2019 federal election, Ms Bell was fortunate enough to spend a year in Denmark as a Rotary Youth Exchange student in the 1990's.

It was fabulous to hear of her experiences engaging with this program and where this experience has taken her and shaped her career as a politician in service to her fellow Australians.

Our Rotary Youth Exchange District 9640 Australia student Theo Gondolf was thrilled to hear of Ms Bell's experiences, and enjoyed speaking Danish with her in our meeting.

Ms Bell represents the Division of Moncrieff in Queensland. She is a member of the Liberal National Party of Queensland and sits with the Liberal Party in federal parliament. She is also the shadow Minister for youth affairs and offered some sage advice to the youngest members in our meeting. Thank you for your time Angie Bell MP.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the beautiful women in our life who have nurtured and cared for others. On Thursday, PRC members Kate Bentley, Jo Leigh, Howard Morton, Theresa Jepson (also TASS staff 😉) and Russell Salisbury worked alongside Arundel State School staff to cook a well deserved breakfast for all the beautiful mums associated with the school. We hope every one of you are showered with the love 💕 and appreciation you deserve on Sunday 💐💖🌸🌹🏵️
