SWOT Student Welfare Outreach Team AYHC

SWOT Student Welfare Outreach Team AYHC We focus on student wellbeing and welfare by equipping them with essential skills to reach their full academic potential.

The Student Welfare Outreach Team (SWOT) is an outreach program that aims to improve the educational outcomes of high school students by providing equitable access to academic support. Our Vision
Being entirely student-run and not-for-profit, SWOT upholds the vision of providing VCE students with equitable access to educational opportunities. Our Growth
From humble beginnings courtesy of The Uni

versity of Melbourne Medicine Students’’s Society (UMMSS), SWOT has grown immensely and provided academic and mentoring support to thousands of students over the years. In 2020, SWOT was run by a team of over 150 dedicated volunteer staff from diverse faculties and year levels, studying at various universities across Victoria. Our tutors are deeply invested in the education of their students across the three major sub-programmes. The continual expansion of our sub-programmes strives to further strengthen student engagement and outreach in both local and regional communities. Our Sub-Programmes
SWOT supports underprivileged students through three major sub-programmes:

(1) SWOT Masterclasses is a series of termly workshops held at our partner schools across Melbourne (this is subject to change under the public health guidelines provided by the Victorian Government Department of Health). Masterclasses combine elements of classroom-style teaching, group discussions and active problem-solving, all delivered with insight from recent high-school graduates to ensure students are offered the most relevant support. Each session, tailored to the participating school’s requests, aims to complement the support provided by schools to help students reach their full potential. (2) SWOT Virtual extends our outreach towards rural and regional school communities. This SWOT sub-programme entails regular virtual tutorials, constructing an online classroom from the convenience of a computer, to offer students unparalleled one-on-one support under the regular guidance and mentorship of a supportive tutor. (3) SWOT Week is the biggest program on the SWOT calendar. It is a week-long VCE revision lecture series conducted bi-annually to prepare students for their final VCE exams. Students attend a combination of lectures and supplementary workshops throughout the day at The University of Melbourne Parkville Campus (this is subject to change under the public health guidelines provided by the Victorian Government Department of Health). This format allows high school students the chance to revise for their exams, whilst giving them a glimpse of what university life is like. It further provides volunteers with the opportunity to teach subjects that they themselves have studied extensively. Your Help
We are always looking for talented university students who share our goal of alleviating educational inequity . If you would like to become part of our community of volunteers, or are a student or school interested in exploring our VCE support programmes, please reach out to us on Facebook or visit our website to find out more.
