Apollo Music Society

Music, friends, and charity. Apollo Music Society is a music society at the University of Melbourne, open to students of all faculties and backgrounds.

Formerly known as Apollo Health Music Society, it was founded in 2002 by a group of second year medical students who witnessed a visiting troupe of Portuguese medical students put on an enthralling performance at the University's Sunderland Theatre. This event inspired our founders to create Apollo: a focal point for students of the health sciences to gather and pursue their musical interests. Fro

m our humble beginnings as a small string orchestra, Apollo has flourished to become a well-established member of the cultural life at the University of Melbourne. Our membership includes students of all faculties, even outside music, and also students from other tertiary institutions around Victoria, such as Monash University and RMIT. Since our inception, we have also seen the birth and growth of several new ensembles, including the Jazz, Fusion, Rock, and Soul Bands, a new Guitar Ensemble, our classical Choir and pop Acapollo (A Ca****la) groups, and several one-off mini performance groups during our semesterly concerts.

🎤 It’s that time of the semester again!! Pick up the mic, get under the lights, and perform your heart out! Got a rock song you’ve been dying to show off? Maybe you’ve made a song of your own, and you’re hoping others can appreciate it like you do? Or maybe you’re just wanting to sit back and relax on a Friday night? Whatever the reason, see you at Apollo’s OPEN MIC NIGHT!! 🎶🎼

📆 DATE: Friday 4th September 2026 (Week 6)
⏰ TIME: 6pm-9pm
📍 LOCATION: The Singapore Theatre, B1 Glyn Davis (MSD) Building

🎫 Both performers and audience members require a ticket to attend (FREE for performers, $5 for Apollo members, $10 for non-members). Purchase your ticket from the LINK IN BIO to let us know you’re coming! The ticket cost covers soft drinks and free pizza 🍕🍕!

🎸If you’d like to perform, please sign up via the link in our bio by Monday 31st August 11:59pm. Please note that ALL performers must be members of Apollo Music Society.

‼️ Rock ensemble bands, please do NOT sign up as there will be a special rock night event for you later in the semester! If you’re not a rock ensemble band but your genre is rock, feel free to sign up!

🗣️Looking for Band Members for the UMCOM Intervarsity Battle of the Bands!🗣️

The Intervarsity Battle of the Bands is an annual event for a great cause, where bands from different universities (including RMIT, Swinburne, VU, LaTrobe and Deakin) battle it out (in friendly competition). This year its on November 6th, with all profits of this event go to this year’s charity, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood.

Auditions are on Sunday 7th of August, ideally in- person, or online. If you are interested, please fill out the audition form on our link-tree in bio!

Rock is AUDITIONS ONLY from 6pm onwards, and our Jam Sessions will begin this Friday. We hope to see you there!

Here is our weekly rehearsal schedule for Week 1! The first two weeks of rehearsals are completely free, so you can try out our ensembles without commitment. We also encourage you to join more than one ensemble if you are interested!

Keep in mind that while rehearsal times are unlikely to change, the venues may change weekly. So do look out for more updates on our socials!
