UMSU Welfare The Welfare Department of UMSU University of Melbourne Student Union Essentially, we cover everything at university that is outside education.

The Welfare Department of UMSU provides services and benefits to make campus life as inclusive and enjoyable as possible for all students at the University of Melbourne. We are responsible for connecting students, supporting students’ rights against discrimination and marginalisation, and promoting both physical and mental health awareness. Our main goals are to connect domestic and international

students, promote both physical and mental health awareness, and support students’ rights at work and during everyday life. Our three focus points this year include:

1. Establishing better connections between domestic and international students.
2. Actively promoting both physical and mental health awareness to the student community.
3. Supporting and legitimising the rights of students at work and during everyday life. If you come across any issues, from work place bullying to campus discrimination, a good first step is to ask the Welfare department. In collaboration with the University of Melbourne Medical Students’ Society, UMSU Welfare is bringing our free grocery service, Union Mart, to medical students who are conducting full-time, unpaid placements at the Northern Hospital🏥

Union Mart provides pantry staples and other everyday essential items to students at no cost, helping students navigate ongoing cost-of-living pressures. We are very excited to see this happening, and will continue to advocate for more student support across different campuses and placement sites moving forward🧡

New timetable for Union Mart in Semester 2🛒

Due to changes in delivery timings, we will be running on a new schedule for Union Mart in Semester 2.

But don’t worry! As announced before, we will be increasing our point limit and daily capacity to allow more students to access this vital service✨

Monday 14:30 - 16:30
Tuesday 10:30-12:00
Wednesday 14:30 - 16:30
Thursday 10:30-12:00
Friday 14:30 - 16:30

📍Location: G30, Building 1888

- To ensure as many students receive support as possible, each student can only visit Union Mart once per week🫶🏻
- No prior registration required. Just visit us during operating hours. A volunteer will be there to assist you in filling in the registration form on the spot.

Union Mart is increasing our daily capacity to 250 students per day, 1250 students per week in Semester 2💓

Over the past semester and the winter break, we have seen an increase demand in students requiring our free grocery service. As new partnerships begin to roll out, we are happy to announce that union mart will be again expanding our service to provide more students with this vital support🍙
