400 GAMES FOR AB ❤️💙
Congratulations to MCC Netty Club Chair and MCC1s champion, Alex “AB” Ball, who on Tuesday night reached the incredible milestone of 400 club games - sealed with a goal on the siren, and a solid win. 💫
AB has been at MCC since the early days, and has given a hell of a lot to the club over the years. Her time, commitment, kindness, expertise, organisation, can-do attitude, friendship and, of course, plenty of sweat.
She plays. She coaches. She’s on the committee. She volunteers. She organises. She welcomes. She corrals. She supports. She shows up. She makes people laugh. And makes them train and play hard.
It’s actually quite frightening to imagine the alternate universe where AB never wandered into MCC trials all those years ago. The domino effect doesn’t bear thinking about.
AB reckons she knew one or two people at her first training. Last night, the spectator section was crammed with people there for her - current players from across the club, past players, family and friends.
That’s the level of respect and awe our gal AB commands.
Along the way there’s been a Tuesday Night Team of the Decade, a Division 1 premiership, a Phoebe McWilliams Club Person of the Year award and, remarkably, even the umpires rate her: back-to-back Open Premier Division 1 MVP awards.
For anyone hoping to one day enter the AB realm, a few prerequisites:
🏐 Don’t wear black runners.
🏐 Don’t wear black socks with white runners.
🏐 Training drills stay INSIDE the court lines. Yes, even if the lines are completely irrelevant to the drill.
🏐 If an event says “dress up”, you dress up.
She’s also bloody humble and absolutely hates attention and praise, so we can only imagine how much she’s enjoying this post.
In the immortal words of the queen herself, once exhaled from the coaches’ bench while overseeing the 5s: “Urrrggghhhhhhhh. Disgusting.” And, typical of AB’s netball knowledge, game sense and netty brain… she wasn’t wrong.
400 games. One of a kind.
We’re better netballers, a better club and better people for having you in our lives.
