New research using data from the Australian Temperament Project, one of Australia’s longest running studies of social and emotional development, has highlighted the important role nurturing family environments during adolescence can play in shaping positive development into adulthood.
The study found adolescents who experienced higher levels of family nurturance at ages 17-18 showed stronger positive development across emerging adulthood, extending into their late twenties.
The findings reinforce the lasting influence of family relationships during adolescence and highlight the value of family-based approaches that support young people’s wellbeing and development over time.
