WHO WE ARE
THE BROUGHTON ART SOCIETY INCORPORATED
The late Ian Broughton was affected by Muscular Dystrophy. As a young man in his early twenties, Ian’s ambition was to house a recreational-art studio and provide facilities and resources to enable South Australian adults living with a disability to get together to pursue their interest in The Arts. Ian successfully founded The Arts Society for the Handicapped in February 1965. Ian passed later that year in October. The Society was re-named in 1994. This unique service was originally located at Bedford Industries. In 1971, courtesy of the City of Unley, The Society moved to The Ian Broughton Memorial Art Studio 269 Fullarton Road Parkside. The Studio is renowned for its friendly, welcoming, safe and inclusive environment. The Society’s skilled and knowledgeable Instructors, together with a dedicated group of Volunteers, provide Monday to Friday art and craft sessions in The Studio. Instruction in painting, mosaics, ceramics, decoupage, papier-maché, scrap-booking, and much more is on offer. The Society is managed by a Volunteer Committee aiming to provide an excellent art and craft service for creative people with a disability to have a meaningful and enjoyable experience. We operated a Mobile Art Studio Service at various community venues from January 2007 until June 2018
