What a truly special day 🤍

Our 2026 Spirituality Conference, held on 31st July, brought together healthcare professionals, carers, community members and spiritual practitioners. The event focused on the theme of Sustaining Hope and Staying Connected, exploring the role of spirituality, hope and connection in palliative care spaces. Diverse perspectives and thoughtful insights were shared.

Since the conference, we've been humbled by the generous feedback we've received. Knowing that the day fostered not only learning, but a sense of connection and belonging, has reinforced why creating spaces like these is essential for a healthy community.

To everyone who joined us, spoke, supported and shared in the day… Thank You. It is a privilege to serve our community by creating spaces where people can come together to learn from each other, lean on each other and walk away with new connections 🙌 We couldn't have hoped for a more meaningful outcome!

Thank you to…
for a special and meaningful Welcome to Country
for not only sharing your wisdom, but treating us all to your beautiful voice and guitar playing
for creating such beautiful floral centrepieces for our tables, which attendees were able to take with them at the end of the day

This NAIDOC Week, we honour and celebrate the cultures, strength and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's theme, 50 Years of Deadly, marks a significant milestone; celebrating five decades of truth telling, culture, community and resilience. It honours the Elders, organisers, artists and communities who have shaped the NAIDOC movement, while looking with hope to the next 50 years.

As we reflect this week, we recognise the importance of listening, learning and walking together with respect.

At Cittamani Hospice Service, we believe spirituality is at the heart of care 💛

Our 2026 Spirituality Conference, Sustaining Hope - Staying Connected, invites us to reflect on the importance of meaning, connection, compassion, and hope in hospice, palliative care, and everyday life.

Through keynote presentations and shared conversation, we will explore how spirituality and human connection can support both those receiving care and those walking alongside them; welcoming people of all beliefs and backgrounds.

At Cittamani Hospice Service, we believe spirituality is not separate from care; it is at the heart of it. This National Palliative Care Week, we were grateful for opportunities to connect, learn, and reflect with our wider community.

On Monday, we attended the National Palliative Care Week Celebration hosted by Dove Palliative Care, sharing a stall alongside wonderful organisations including Ambulance Wish Queensland and Mingary Care to help raise awareness of the supports available in palliative care.

On Wednesday, our team gathered for lunch while taking part in a cultural awareness session with Renae Vaughan, leader of cultural awareness training for Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, deepening our understanding of culturally safe care in the work we do. Really having those honest conversations!

This National Palliative Care Week (10–16 May 2026) invites us to open up conversations about life, care, and what matters most.

This year’s theme, “Getting to the heart of it: Big Questions. Real Answers.”, encourages greater understanding of palliative care, not only as end-of-life support, but as care that helps people live as fully and comfortably as possible, with dignity, connection, and choice.

We know that honest conversations can make a meaningful difference. Starting these discussions early can reduce uncertainty, strengthen support, and help ensure care feels personal and respectful for individuals and families.

Last week, our director Melanie attended an event at Government House to launch Palliative Care Week 2026. In attendance, was Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM.

Last weekend, our Executive Director Melanie and Community Spiritual Program Coordinator Elli joined a national gathering with our FPMT community 🤍

The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) founded by our spiritual heads Lama Yeshe, Lama Zopa Rinpoche and students, an international non-profit organisation devoted to the transmission of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition and values worldwide through teaching, meditation and community service. They bring together centres and services around the world, grounded in wisdom, compassion and care for others.

Centering around Universal Compassion, it was a meaningful weekend of connection, shared purpose and community, we’re grateful to be part of it.

Some lovely photos to share from the weekend shared by affiliates from across Australia and New Zealand.

Even Banksy made the journey 🐶
