Some people stand in the spotlight, while others quietly work behind the scenes, making sure everything comes together. ❤️
Today we want to pay tribute to one of those incredible people – Lynne Fry.
Known by many as the "Mother Hen" of the anglers and more recently affectionately nicknamed "Ling Ling," Lynne has been the backbone of the Barra Nationals for many, many years.
Long before she officially took on major roles within the event, Lynne was already there supporting the competition in any way she could. Back in the early days, while many only saw the finished product, Lynne and her family would spend hours on the lounge room floor hole-punching, assembling yearbooks and helping prepare everything needed for competitors. There were countless jobs done quietly in the background, simply because they needed doing.
As the years went by, Lynne's involvement only grew. She joined the Barra Nationals Committee, taking on more responsibility each year with volunteers, accommodation, raffles, logistics and the hundreds of little tasks that make the event run smoothly. Even during her time as Club President, when the Nationals operated in a much more hands-off way than they do today, Lynne remained heavily invested in ensuring the event's success.
Then in 2025, Lynne stepped up once again, taking on the enormous role of Coordinator for the 2026 Barra Nationals. It was a year that threw every challenge imaginable our way, but as always, Lynne tackled it with determination, patience and an unwavering commitment to the event and its people.
Without Lynne, our evening entertainment and presentations simply wouldn't run as seamlessly as they do. She's the first one up every morning and almost always the last one heading to bed each night—or more accurately, the first one to bed each morning after everyone else has finished.
Her dedication goes far beyond what anyone sees. She works tirelessly behind the scenes, always putting the anglers, volunteers and the Barra Nationals family first.
The Barra Nationals has been built by passionate volunteers, and Lynne Fry is one of the finest examples of that spirit.
From every committee member, volunteer, sponsor, angler and supporter who has crossed paths with this event over the years, thank you Lynne. Thank you for your countless hours, your selfless dedication, your friendship, your leadership and your unwavering belief in what this event represents over the past 25 plus years.
The Barra Nationals simply would not be the same without you, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you have given to this event and our community.
