What a day at the Gippsland Harvest of Hope Mobile Hub! 🙌

Today we delivered Tailored Food Packs to 20 families and connected with even more new families needing support.

Our stall was buzzing — 60+ people stopped by in just 2 hours. We wrapped up at 2:30pm, right as the festival crowds started rolling in.

Tired but so grateful. This is why we do it ❤️

> 💔 We mourn 15‑year‑old Dau Akueng and 12‑year‑old Chol Achiek — two young lives stolen far too soon while walking home from a basketball game in Cobblebank.

These were not “victims,” but Dau and Chol: friends, dreamers, loved. Their death breaks our hearts.

This is not the first time our community has lost youth. But it must be the last time we respond only with sorrow.

✊ We call for justice — for full accountability.
🕊️ We call for fairness — in media, in policing, in our institutions.
🛡️ We demand protection — real, structural support for young people - vulnerable, at risk.
🔄 We insist on meaningful action — not empty promises, but sustainable systemic change. It is a necessity.

To the South Sudanese community: we stand with you.
To the Victorian/Australian authorities at all decision-making levels: act now.
To Dau and Chol: we will not let your names be forgotten.

https://www.facebook.com/share/1CcL4s5XS9/ Yesterday 20th Sept, I attended this 'ACT NOW FOR PEACE' UN International Peace Day (by UPF & WFWP) with not only these amazing ladies, but also our VU Master of International Community Development students on Placement, not as a spectator but as an active participant - asking relevant, thought-provoking questions, after listening attentively to every speaker. Great time for networking and developing new networks. I met Raviana, an amazing young lady, who makes a difference through feeding children in Myanmar through the 'Meals for Minds' initiative. "Meals are not charity, they're Dignity'. "Justice delayed, is justice denied." "Peace begins with providing people's basic needs." "Global Village = find shared values...and a common-humanity identity." "Religion shouldn't drive policy." AHA moment: "Don't use words like CALD or CARM".

Nelson Mandela has many accolades. He’s an iconic figure that triumphed over South Africa’s apartheid regime. He was a human rights lawyer, a prisoner of conscience, and an international peacemaker. And he was the first democratically elected president of a free South Africa (no biggie). So you see why the United Nations General Assembly would want to celebrate his life. Commemorated on July 18 — Nelson Mandela’s birthday — Nelson Mandela International Day celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact. So, in honor of his 67 years of public service, I join the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the U.N. in asking that you spend 67 minutes of your time helping others.

Nelson Mandela International Day shines a light every year on the legacy of a man whose monumental achievements changed the 20th century and shaped the 21st. His values and determination — a deep commitment to human rights, freedom, and justice — are reflected on, and are a source of inspiration for others. Mandela advocated for the rightful dignity and equality of every living person, and encouraged engagement and solidarity across all borders.
