✨ In a world where everyone feels busy, this is your invitation to slow down.

Christmas in July isn’t just about the food.

It’s about gathering around a table with people you may know, people you may not know yet, and sharing an evening that feels warm, welcoming, and meaningful.

Over the years, Christmas in July has become one of our favourite events.

We’ve shared stories, laughter, good food, new friendships, and conversations that linger long after the night is over.

For a few hours, people from different walks of life come together for one simple reason: to connect and make a difference.

This year’s theme is A Shared Table.

A reminder that some of life’s best moments happen when we pause, sit down together, and enjoy good company.

And while we’re enjoying a beautiful meal, we’ll also be helping create brighter futures for vulnerable children and young people in Sierra Leone.

💛 Good food.
💛 Great company.
💛 A meaningful cause.

We’d love you to join us.

This is what happens when a child is given the chance to go to school. 🧡

Meet Augusta*

Years ago, Augusta* was a little girl with big dreams but limited opportunities. Like many vulnerable children in Sierra Leone, her future was uncertain.

But someone chose to believe that her circumstances did not have to define her future.

Through sponsorship, education, and ongoing support, Augusta* was given the opportunity to stay in school, continue her studies, and pursue her dreams.

Today, she is in her final year of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Njala University and is preparing to dedicate her life to caring for others.

One day, she hopes to provide healthcare to vulnerable communities, support mothers and babies, and inspire other young girls to believe in what is possible for their own lives.

And that’s why this work matters.

When you educate a child, you don’t just change one life.

You strengthen families.
You uplift communities.
You create future leaders, carers, and changemakers.

Augusta’s story is proof that a child’s beginning does not have to determine their destination.

💛 If you’d like to help more girls like Augusta* stay in school and reach their potential, consider sponsoring a child or supporting our work.

Because every child deserves the opportunity to dream, learn, and thrive.

At 9 years old, he was one step away from losing everything.

Today, Abubakaar* is a first-year university student studying Mass Communication at Fourah Bay College in Sierra Leone.

But his journey to get here wasn’t easy.

When Abubakaar* was a child, his mother disappeared while trying to escape overwhelming debt. Left behind and facing an uncertain future, he was taken in by a neighbour who cared for him as her own.

Tragically, she later passed away during childbirth.

Once again, Abubakaar’s* world was turned upside down.

For many children, circumstances like these can end their education before it even begins.

But thanks to the support of sponsors and donors, Abubakaar* was given something every child deserves:

Stability.
Education.
Opportunity.
Hope.

Over the years, we watched him grow from a vulnerable young boy into a determined and ambitious young man.

Today, he is studying Mass Communication and dreams of using his voice to tell the stories of vulnerable people, challenge injustice, and advocate for those who are often unheard.

And that’s what makes child sponsorship so powerful.

It doesn’t just help a child survive today.

It helps create the teachers, nurses, journalists, business owners, and leaders of tomorrow.

Abubakaar’s* story is proof that a child’s circumstances do not have to determine their future.

If you’d like to help more children access education and opportunity, we’d love to have you join us.

Every child deserves the chance to dream bigger.

A huge thank you to Carol at The Shoe Garden for supporting The Fig Tree Gift Shop by stocking our beautiful French Doll Necklaces.

Every necklace sold helps support vulnerable children and young people in Sierra Leone, with 100% of proceeds donated to The Fig Tree Children.

Thank you for finding such a creative way to support our work, Carol. We truly appreciate it 🧡🙏🏻

Say bonjour to these darling French doll necklaces we are now stocking. They are designed here in Australia but sent to Paris to be dressed! The individual outfits, the accessories and even the shoes are exquisite. These are $59.95 each and we are giving that entire amount to the amazing The Fig Tree Children, a charity that supports children in Sierre Leone go to school and, in some cases, then on to university. The lovely Jane is the CEO and is totally amazing. The necklaces are already selling fast. Indeed, I bought the first one as the doll matched my dress perfectly and the lovely Fleur from Straight Laced, our new shoe lace stockist, bought the second one that perfectly matched what she was wearing! They truly are very special and support some amazing kids who otherwise wouldn't be able to go to school. x

One day, she’ll be the nurse caring for someone in need.

Meet Augusta*, one of The Fig Tree Children’s long-standing beneficiaries in Sierra Leone.

Today, Augusta* is a final-year nursing student at Njala University and is just months away from graduation.

But her story didn’t start here.

Like many of the children and young people we support, Augusta* faced significant challenges growing up. Through the support of sponsors and donors, she was able to stay in school, continue her education, and pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.

Now, she’s preparing for a future dedicated to helping others — caring for the sick, supporting mothers and babies, and serving her community.

This is why education matters.

Not because it changes a single day.
Because it changes an entire future.

Every child deserves the opportunity to discover what they’re capable of. Every child deserves the chance to dream beyond their circumstances.

Today, Augusta* is proof of what becomes possible when someone believes in a child and invests in their future. ✨

If you’d like to help more children and young people in Sierra Leone access education and opportunity, we’d love to hear from you.

💛 Sponsor a child or support our work through the link in our bio.

This is why we gather every year. 💛

Behind the food and conversation, Christmas in July is something much bigger. Children and young people in Sierra Leone being given opportunities they may not otherwise have.

Opportunities to go to school.
To learn.
To feel supported.
To dream about a future that feels possible. ✨

The Fig Tree Children supports vulnerable children and young people through education, care, and practical support helping them navigate incredibly difficult circumstances and move toward brighter futures.

And the truth is, none of this happens alone. It happens because of community. Because people choose to show up. Because people care.

That’s exactly what Christmas in July – A Shared Table is about. A beautiful evening of good food, meaningful connection, and shared purpose.

Come share a table with us and help create opportunities for children who need them most. 💛

What does a night out have to do with this photo? 💛

Actually… everything.

Every child in this photo is carrying more than just a backpack. They’re carrying hope, opportunity, and the chance to keep learning. 📚✨

For many vulnerable children in Sierra Leone, simple things like school supplies, support, and access to education can completely change the direction of their future. And none of it happens without people who choose to care.

That’s why events like our Christmas in July – A Shared Table matter so much.

When you join us for an evening of good food, connection, and community, you’re also helping create opportunities for children and young people like these.

Come for the food, stay for the purpose. We’d love to share the evening with you. 💛
