, together with , were privileged to receive $2,000 funding from Volunteering WA and Lotterywest, through the 2026 National Volunteer Week Grant.

Together our charities used these funds to purchase items and catering to enable us to hold a brunch to celebrate the hard work of the regular volunteers from both organisations.

The items we purchased will be able to be used long into the future, for other events such as our Garden to Kitchen Program, or morning teas in the community garden.

During the event, fun was had by all, as we ate delicious food prepared by Brian (our resident Travelling Chef from ZaZa’s Legacy) and his sous chef, Jacqueline, decorated and created badges, played lawn games, and took the time to acknowledge the hard work our volunteers have put into both our charities. Neither of our charities would exist without the generosity of time and expertise of our many volunteers.

What was evident from this gathering was that our aim of bringing people together, with the hope of reducing the feeling of isolation in our community, nurturing the formation and continuation of friendships and improving mental health, is certainly happening in front of our eyes. Then watching two charities coming together with a mutual purpose, full of passion and drive, for the betterment of all, gave us even more hope for the future of our charity, its projects, and the continued success of the community garden.

Volunteering truly is like nothing else you will do in your life. So if you’ve been sitting back, waiting for your sign to get up and out of the house to get involved…. here is your sign! now! You’ll never regret getting involved but you may regret missing out on an incredible opportunity. Everyone is always welcome.

This week is 2026 National Volunteer Week and thanks to Volunteering WA and Lotterywest, PCG together with ZaZa's Legacy - Choking Prevention Australia are holding an exciting FREE event this Sunday to acknowledge our amazing volunteers.

Without our volunteers’ generous gift of time, their dedication and willingness to share their expertise, neither of our Charities would be able to exist or continue to function. Both Charities undertake such valuable work in our community that otherwise just wouldn’t be happening.

Let’s come together to show our gratitude for these volunteers who give so much of themselves for the benefit of the community… and as a bonus… you get a free brunch, activities and an awesome Sunday!!!

‼️⚠️‼️ It’s a FREE TICKETED EVENT, so RSVP is ESSENTIAL ‼️⚠️‼️

🌻🌻Grab your TICKETS before they CLOSE on SATURDAY MIDDAY!!!!!🌻🌻

We hope to see many of our community there to support our volunteers 🌱

What a beautiful community-filled week for Padbury Community Garden that was 🌿🧡

From our lovely Mother’s Day gathering surrounded by gardens, chats, cups of tea and connection… plus Sandy’s yummy cake to meeting so many curious and wonderful people at the Senior Lifestyle Expo alongside our fellow community garden groups — it truly highlighted the power of community.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with us at the expo. We loved sharing stories about community gardening, sustainable living and growing local connections.

Special mention to Tony from Duncraig Community Garden who brought along mouse melons (which definitely sparked curiosity! 🍉😂), seeds, passionfruit and local produce to share with visitors. We also enjoyed spending time with John and Celina from Lakeview Contemplation Garden — such a lovely mix of passionate people all coming together.

Weeks like this remind us that gardens are so much more than plants… they are friendship, learning, wellbeing and belonging 🌱

Thank you to all our volunteers, supporters and local community for continuing to help Padbury Community Garden grow.
