, together with , were privileged to receive $2,000 funding from Volunteering WA and Lotterywest, through the 2026 National Volunteer Week Grant.
Together our charities used these funds to purchase items and catering to enable us to hold a brunch to celebrate the hard work of the regular volunteers from both organisations.
The items we purchased will be able to be used long into the future, for other events such as our Garden to Kitchen Program, or morning teas in the community garden.
During the event, fun was had by all, as we ate delicious food prepared by Brian (our resident Travelling Chef from ZaZa’s Legacy) and his sous chef, Jacqueline, decorated and created badges, played lawn games, and took the time to acknowledge the hard work our volunteers have put into both our charities. Neither of our charities would exist without the generosity of time and expertise of our many volunteers.
What was evident from this gathering was that our aim of bringing people together, with the hope of reducing the feeling of isolation in our community, nurturing the formation and continuation of friendships and improving mental health, is certainly happening in front of our eyes. Then watching two charities coming together with a mutual purpose, full of passion and drive, for the betterment of all, gave us even more hope for the future of our charity, its projects, and the continued success of the community garden.
Volunteering truly is like nothing else you will do in your life. So if you’ve been sitting back, waiting for your sign to get up and out of the house to get involved…. here is your sign! now! You’ll never regret getting involved but you may regret missing out on an incredible opportunity. Everyone is always welcome.
