🎓 Reimagining Higher Education in the Global South 🌍📚

While global access to higher education has expanded, the gap is still massive for underserved communities in the Global South.

📊 Did you know?
➡️ Tertiary education enrollment globally has more than doubled in 20 years, now reaching over 220 million students. (Source: Tertiary Education Overview-World Bank)

➡️ Yet, many low-income regions continue to have gross enrollment rates far below the global average—often less than 1 in 10 young people reach university. (Source: Higher Education figures at a glance-UNESCO UIS)

These numbers tell a story of potential lost, not for lack of talent—but for lack of opportunity.

Our goal is to reach 1 million young changemakers by 2030 with the education and tools they need to lead change in their communities. 💪🌱

We believe that background should never limit potential. Help us spread the word and support the movement.

We're thrilled to welcome Narendran T as our new Director of Strategy and Partnerships. With 17 years of experience in the non-profit sector, including impactful roles at organizations like DHAN Foundation, Vrutti -Livelihood Impact Partners, Vidya Poshak, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Narendran is well-equipped to lead our strategic initiatives and partnerships.

🔍 Background: A Tata-Dhan Academy alumnus, founder of Tamuku, and a fundraiser who has mobilized over $12.2 million for NGOs in India and globally.

🎯 Role at Karta: Narendran will drive our strategic planning, partnership development, fundraising and enhancing our impact across the Global South.

🎓 Addressing Higher Education Disparities in the Global South 🎓

A UNESCO report underscores a critical gap: fewer than 10% of young adults in the Global South have access to higher education, compared to 70% in more developed regions. This disparity is particularly severe among marginalized communities, compounded by systemic barriers and insufficient inclusion policies. 🌍 In response, The Karta Initiative UK is actively working to change this narrative, not just through advocacy but by taking concrete actions. Currently engaged in projects across India and planning to expand to Nepal and other countries in collaboration with local NGO partners, The Karta Initiative UK is dedicated to enabling equitable access to global opportunities including quality higher education and career-readiness for youth from margianlized communities, giving them the opportunity to transform their lives and communities.
