Join Orange City Council’s Migrant and Refugee Support Service for a screening of 'We Are Not Powerless' on Friday night, with Rural Australians for Refugees, Orange.

The film tells the story of Muzafar Ali and his wife Nagina, who escaped the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2012 and became refugees in Indonesia. Determined to do something, they started a two-room school which became a community hub and the most successful refugee-led initiative in the world.

Friday's event includes supper and a Q&A session with writers and directors Muzafar Ali and Jolyon Hoff.

ABC Heywire are looking for the next group of Heywire storytellers (ages 16 to 22) and Trailblazer young leaders (ages 18 to 28), and we would love your help to share these opportunities with young people in your community.

Heywire: A storytelling opportunity for regional young people:

Heywire invites young people to share a true story about their life in regional Australia. Entries can be writing, audio, video or photos. It is about honesty and lived experience, not spelling or grammar.

Heywire winners receive:

One on one story development with ABC producers
Their story shared on ABC TV, radio, online and social media
An all expenses paid trip to Canberra for the Heywire Regional Youth Summit

We are also offering free online storytelling workshops to help young people develop their ideas and shape their story.
