🏉💔 STATE OF ORIGIN SHOULD NEVER MEAN FEAR 💔🏉

Research in Australia has found a significant rise in domestic violence during State of Origin game nights.

📊 Studies showed:
🔺 Domestic assaults increased by 40.7%
🔺 Non-domestic assaults increased by 71.8%

Violence is never “just part of the game.”

Alcohol, gambling, aggression, and toxic behaviour can increase the risk — but there is NEVER an excuse for abuse.

❤️ Real strength is:
✔ Respect
✔ Accountability
✔ Protecting the people you love

Today is National Domestic and Family Violence Remembrance Day.

A day to remember the lives lost.
To honour victim survivors.
And to ask the question none of us should ever have to ask…

“Am I next?”

Too many people in Australia are living in fear in their own homes. Too many names have already been added to the growing list of lives taken by domestic and family violence.

We cannot keep treating this as “just a private issue.”
It is a community issue. A public safety issue. A national crisis.

We remember.
We honour.
And we take action.

If you or someone you know is experiencing violence. There is help. There are people who care. And you deserve safety. 💜

Domestic and family violence can affect anyone.
You are not alone.
You are not to blame.
There is help. There is hope.

Today, on National Domestic and Family Violence Day, we stand together to remember, to honour, and to speak up.

We remember the lives lost, the voices silenced, and the countless individuals still living in fear behind closed doors. We honour the strength of survivors who have shown incredible courage in the face of pain, and we stand beside those who are still finding their way.

Domestic and family violence does not discriminate. It affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and communities. It thrives in silence and that’s why today matters.

Today is about awareness.
Today is about support.
Today is about action.

If you see something, say something. If you know someone struggling, reach out. And if you are experiencing violence, please know you are not alone there is help, there is support, and there is a way forward.

Let’s continue to break the cycle. Let’s continue to have the hard conversations. Let’s continue to stand up for safety, respect, and dignity for all.

RIP Molly 🤍

Two years today.
Two years without your smile, your presence, your life that should still be here.

Taken too soon to domestic violence.
Something that should never be happening, not to you, not to anyone.

We remember you.
We say your name.
We carry your memory forward.

Gone, but never forgotten 🕊️

Tonight, leave your light on.

For Molly.
For every woman whose life was taken too soon.
For those still living in fear.

A light in the dark can mean more than we realise.

It says: you’re not alone.
It says: we see you.
It says: this has to stop.

On April 22, I’ll be leaving my light on. 💫

For Molly.
For the women we’ve lost.
For the ones still living in fear.

This isn’t rare. It’s not “somewhere else.”
It’s happening in our communities, to people we know.

Too many names. Too many families. Too many lives cut short.

If leaving a light on starts a conversation, shows support, or reminds someone they’re not alone… then it matters.

And if you’re in a situation where you don’t feel safe, there are people who will listen, who will help, and who will stand beside you.

This has to stop.

The She Matters mural in Orange has been defaced.

Over recent weeks, multiple posters have been ripped, and now slurs have been drawn on five of the women’s portraits. Yesterday, I removed them, and they will be replaced.

After talking to staff who have been reviewing CCTV, it appears this was the act of young children, out late, unsupervised, and unaware of the gravity of their actions. This is heartbreaking not only for the mural’s meaning - honouring women lost to violence - but for what it reveals: these kids lack role models and guidance. This underscores the urgent need for education programs in schools, so every child has the opportunity to learn the impact of their words and actions.

Let’s invest in their future, now.

If you wish to help with clean up and replacement of posters Kristal and Marea will be at the mural from 12pm on Friday.

From 16–20 February 2026, police across the western region launched Operation Shield — a targeted surge focusing on family and domestic violence.

With support from Western Region Operations and Strike Force Raptor, the operation aimed to:
• Apprehend wanted DV offenders

📊 Operation Results:
• 105 people charged
• 191 alleged DV-related offences

• 103 new ADVO applications made by police
• 12 arrest warrants executed
• 354 bail compliance checks completed
• 27 people detected breaching bail conditions
• 20 Fi****ms Prohibition Order searches conducted
• 21 fi****ms seized

This operation sends a strong message — domestic and family violence will not be tolerated. Community safety remains the priority.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, reach out for support.
