💜 Torie’s impact continues to fly across remote NSW.

We’ve recently been reminded that the impact of one person’s care and mentorship can travel and truly matter.
Meet Kathryn Hines, a midwife and flight nurse with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, based in Broken Hill.
Kathryn undertook her midwifery studies in Orange and credits Torie Finnane as her mentor. Today, Kathryn supports women, babies and families across some of the most remote parts of NSW, bringing vital care to communities where distance can make all the difference.
During her travels across the state, TFF board member and Chief Midwife, Donna Garland, had the pleasure of meeting Kathryn and hearing about her connection to Torie.
There is something incredibly special about knowing that the knowledge, kindness and mentorship Torie shared continues to travel across our state through the midwives she inspired.
Torie’s impact lives on in the people she inspired, the care they provide and the families they support. 💜

This afternoon, I had the privilege of presenting at the Australian College of Neonatal Nurses’ Babies in the Bush conference, sharing the work of TFF and our commitment to improving maternity and neonatal care for regional families.

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month - a time to acknowledge the families navigating the heartbreak of pregnancy and infant loss, and to recognise the healthcare professionals who walk alongside them through some of life’s most difficult moments.

Today is a reminder of why this work matters. Behind every statistic is a family, a story and a future that matters.

To the neonatal nurses, midwives and healthcare teams who care for babies and support families through both hope and heartbreak — thank you. 💜

For many of the approx. 80,000 births across regional and remote Australia each year, the nearest maternity service isn’t just around the corner - it can be hours away.

That’s why we’re working to strengthen regional and neonatal care, so that every woman and baby can access the care they need when it matters most, closer to home.

THIS IS WHAT YOUR SUPPORT MAKES POSSIBLE.
The impact of our 2026 Black Tie Ball will reach well beyond one incredible night.
Together, we are helping deliver a region-wide foetal monitoring system across Southern NSW - a project that will support at least 100 midwives and influence the care of more than 1,500 women and their babies every year, going forward.
The project will be completed throughout early 2027, bringing connected, contemporary foetal monitoring to maternity services across the region and fundamentally changing what is possible for midwives and the women and babies they support.
For our midwives, it means greater access to technology, information and clinical support when it matters most.
For women and babies, it means the potential for earlier recognition, better-informed decisions and fewer journeys away from home.
This is philanthropy in action.
And it is only possible because our community chose to stand behind regional women, babies and the people who care for them.

TOP OF OZ FOR TORIE 2027 IS HAPPENING 🏔️

Sunday 24 January 2027.

We’re heading back to the top of Australia - bringing together an incredible community to climb for the people who stand beside women and babies in some of their most vulnerable moments.

For the midwives, nurses, doctors and healthcare teams who provide care, reassurance and expertise when it matters most.

And for the belief that every family, wherever they live, deserves access to the best possible care.

Registrations for Top of Oz for Torie 2027 will open soon.

A huge thank you to everyone who made our 2026 Black Tie Ball so special — our incredible MC Ben Fordham , the midwives who shared their stories and insight, our wonderful guests, and every sponsor, partner and supporter who helped bring the night to life.
We’re still taking it all in — and there is so much more to share. We know we fundraised over half a million dollars!
For now, here’s a little sneak peek of an unforgettable night celebrating Torie, our community and the work we’re doing together to uplift maternity care for women and babies across regional NSW.
