A reminder that this great event is coming up this Wednesday, 24th June in Old Bar! 🎥

The NSW Reconstruction Authority has put together a collection of great short films all about resilience and adaptation in a changing world, and Manning Coastcare is featured!

As well as showing the short films, there will also be a panel discussion about the issues raised in the films, so it should make for a very interesting event.

👷 CONSTRUCTION WORKS 👷🏼

You may have seen the temporary fencing up around the north side of the club - it is for our new (very shiny!) access ramp railing installation!

Thanks to Shearwater Engineering. A Division of IMS. for their quality stainless steel craftsmanship and the NSW Government, Office of Sport, Surf Club Facilities Program funding.

Please use the front doors for access whilst the railings are being replaced.

Adaptation Stories is a series of short films from regional NSW featuring leaders and communities building preparedness to natural hazard risk.

Across the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid-Coast, climate resilience is shaped by the unique character, challenges and strengths of each local community, and it all starts with people working together.

At Yarramalong Hall in the Central Coast hinterland, locals have worked together with the council and an energy provider to transform a community hall that is more than 120 years old into a safe haven that supports residents with essential services before, during and after extreme weather events.

In the Manning Valley, dedicated volunteers have been working for more than 30 years to protect the biodiversity of the area and precious littoral rainforest from the growing threat of coastal inundation.

In the Hunter, Gomeroi man Professor Ghillar Michael Anderson is sharing Traditional Knowledge and Aboriginal astronomy, showing how observing the interconnectedness of the cosmos and the land has helped people anticipate and adapt to environmental change for millennia.

Different places and different challenges, but a shared commitment to protecting what matters most: people, culture, community and Country.

🎬 COMMUNITY SCREENING – ADAPTATION STORIES

The NSW Reconstruction Authority is holding an event at the Taree Old Bar Surf Life Saving Club for a special free screening of Adaptation Stories - a series of compelling short films showcasing how communities across NSW are adapting, preparing and building resilience in a changing world.

At approximately 0800 yesterday members of our emergency call out teams were activated in response to an upturned boat at the Harrington/Manning Point inlet with people’s whereabouts unknown.

Together with Paramedics, Police, Marine Rescue and Westpac Rescue helicopter members from Taree Old Bar Surf Club, Crowdy Head Surf Club & Pacific Palms surf club undertook an extensive search of our coastline.

Surf Life Saving assets including 3 inflatable rescue boats, 2 rwc (JetSki), 2 drones and duty officers all attended resulting in the men located fit and well.

Well done to all for your quick action and commitment on a rough day out.
