Exercise Fenrir 🏕️

After almost 6 months away from the field, 302 ACU headed out this prior weekend for Exercise Fenrir, our first bivouac of the year.

The exercise marked an exciting milestone for our current cycle of recruits as they experienced their very first bivouac. Throughout the weekend they showed resilience, teamwork and enthusiasm, quickly building strong harmony within the intake while stepping outside their comfort zones and embracing every challenge thrown their way.

Exercise Fenrir was also the first opportunity for our recently promoted NCOs to put their new senior roles into practice within a field environment, developing confidence and leadership skills while leading others.

Cadets put their training to the test through activities including constructing hootchies in the dark, fire building, first aid scenarios, leadership challenges, night navigation and radio communication exercises.

A fantastic start to the training year and an even better reminder that some of the best learning happens out in the field.

ANZAC Day 🌺

Though ANZAC Day has now passed, we continue to reflect on and honour the brave servicemen and women who have served our country, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of Australia and the freedoms we enjoy today.

Cadets from 302 ACU proudly attended the ANZAC Day services at Bentleigh RSL and the Tri-Service commemorative service at Cheltenham Moorabbin RSL alongside veterans, community members, local schools and representatives from across the services. Standing together in remembrance, our cadets reflected the values of respect, service, courage and mateship that ANZAC Day continues to represent.

These commemorations remind us that the ANZAC spirit is not confined to one day alone, but lives on through remembrance, community and service.

To all past and present servicemen and women, thank you for your service.

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the 302 ACU Oakleigh ACS team 2LT(AAC) Joseph Bruce.

2LT(AAC) Bruce was recently promoted from his DAH role and brings with him over 10 years of volunteering experience across multiple Army Cadet units around Melbourne. After recently retiring from the ADF, he now steps into the role of Unit Quartermaster at 302 ACU.

In this role, Bruce will support cadets by ensuring they have the equipment they need to train safely and effectively.

We’re excited to have him as part of the team, congratulations on the promotion!

What an incredible afternoon to wrap up 2025! Our End-of-Year Parade on Saturday 29 November had a fantastic turnout of families, friends, and supporters filling Oakleigh Barracks and cheering on our cadets 🎖️

This year’s parade was particularly special as we farewelled several of our senior cadets who are ageing-out or completing their cadet journey with us:
• CUO Goi
• CUO Bhardwaj
• CDTWO2 Roach
• CDTSGT Cooper
• CDTCPL Desai
Each of them has contributed enormously to our culture, leadership, training and overall energy and they will be greatly missed in 2026!

We also want to give a huge shout-out to our 2025 NCO Team, who have been nothing short of outstanding. This year’s NCO team has been one of the best in the history of Oakleigh Cadets. Your leadership, initiative and support for recruits and junior cadets has set a new benchmark.

🏅 Award Presentations

🎖️ OC’s Award: CDTSGT Nazareth, for phenomenal growth and perseverance
🎖️ Senior Cadet of the Year: CDTSGT Monga, for dedicated and exemplary leadership.
🎖️ Cadet of the Year: CDT Maylis, for exemplary behaviour and proudly representing AAC values
🎖️ Recruit of the Year: CDT Minett, for an outstanding first year and strong commitment

We were honoured to have Colonel Paul McArthur, Commander Victorian AAC Brigade, as our Reviewing Officer (and a proud cadet parent), presenting our 2025 awards.

To every cadet, parent, guardian and supporter, thank you for being a part of our journey this year. This was our final parade of 2025, and we are incredibly proud of everything this unit has achieved together.

Here’s to another amazing year at 302 ACU!

Remembrance Day 🌺

Though Remembrance day has just passed, we continue to pause to honour the brave men and women who have served, sacrificed and shaped the freedoms we live with today. Remembrance Day is a moment of reflection, a time to stand with our community, acknowledge our veterans and remember those who never returned home.

Cadets from 302 ACU attended the Tuesday Bentleigh service alongside veterans, RSL representatives, community members and local schools. Even with the rain setting in again, our cadets showed quiet resilience, respect and strength, standing together in remembrance.

Earlier on Saturday, our cadets also supported the Remembrance Day Appeal at Bentleigh Station, proudly assisting with poppy sales to help raise funds for veterans and their families. Despite the wet weather, they pushed through with teamwork and commitment, honouring the legacy behind the poppy.

To all who have served, we remember you, we thank you, and we honour your legacy.
🌺 Lest We Forget.
