This May, Status is shining a spotlight on Crohnโ€™s disease and ulcerative colitis, collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), in recognition of IBD Awareness Month.

Recently, a group of staff from Status Western Australia completed the IBD in the Workplace training, strengthening their understanding of the physical and mental impacts of IBD, workplace rights for Participantโ€™s living with the condition, and practical ways to support Participants transitioning into suitable employment. This initiative is led by Chad, Employment Services Area Manager for the West in Western Australia, who has lived with Crohnโ€™s disease for the past 7 years and brings valuable lived experience to his role.

Tomorrow, staff across Adelaide and Perth offices will observe World IBD Day, and raise funds for Crohn's & Colitis Australia. We are proud to continue building our knowledge and skills to better support our Participants, including a young Participant in Kwinana living with Crohnโ€™s, who has shared how meaningful it is to see their provider leading education, awareness, and celebration of the condition.

Veronicaโ€™s inspiring journey through Eighty9's programs ๐Ÿคฉ

Veronica came to Status Kwinana looking for the right support to return to work. With the help of her Employment Coach, Doreen, she began exploring long term roles that suited her strengths and experience.

To build confidence and update her skills, Veronica joined Pivot Training RTO #46089's Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program. With experience in truck driving and traffic management, she was keen to get back into work but needed a role that was less physically demanding.

When a Bus Aide role became available, supporting children travelling to and from school, the team explored this as a potential fit with Veronica. While Veronica had not worked in this industry before, she was open to giving it a try.

The team supported Veronica through the application process and worked closely with the employer to organise interview adjustments so she felt comfortable and supported.

Veronica smashed the interview, completed a work trial, and the following week was offered the role ๐ŸŽ‰ She has now secured meaningful employment that matches her strengths, experience and interests.
