✈️ A Local Night. A Global Mission. 🌍

What would inspire someone to fly thousands of miles around the world in a single engine aircraft?

On Monday 2 March, the Rotary Club of Barossa Valley is hosting a very special (and free) community evening at The Hangar, Koch Rd, Krondorf, home of the Barossa Airshow.

We’ll be joined live via Zoom by international aviator and Rotarian Peter Teahan, as he shares his extraordinary Flight to End Polio journey, flying across continents to help eradicate polio worldwide.

This isn’t just an aviation story.
It’s a story of courage, purpose, and the power of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

🔹 Free entry
🔹 Catering provided
🔹 6:00pm start
🔹 Donations on the night support End Polio Now

Whether you love aviation, community events, or simply want to be inspired — this will be a memorable evening.

An Evening with Peter Teahan - Flight To End Polio
On Monday, 2nd March, we will be hosting a special event at the Rowland Flat Airfield, Koch Road, Krondorf, from 6:00 pm.
Peter, with John Ockenfels, flew a single-engined aircraft around the world to raise funds for the Rotary Project to End Polio.
Peter will join us via Zoom to inform and entertain us with the story of the adventures that came with this epic flight.

Only 80 people can fit in the venue. Ticketebo, our ticketing friends for the Barossa Airshow, will issue free tickets. Only 80 will be available, so be quick,

Barossa Valley Rotary will provide free catering for the event.

Donations to the End Polio Now Campaign of Rotary International can be made at the venue on the night. If you cannot attend but want to donate, Ticketebo will accept donations on our behalf.

Our Christmas meeting was at the Wanera Wine Bar on 15th December. We had many members, partners, and friends, plus a visiting Rotarian from Scotland.
A highlight of the night was the induction of Tim Mikkelsen into our club. Tim was a Rotarian in New Zealand and was welcomed to the Barossa Valley Rotary Club by President James. Tim and partner Penny are in the photo with President James.

Many of our members were hard at work for the SA Rural Women's Gathering on 17th October at the Bush Gardens. We cooked and served about 250 bacon and egg rolls for their breakfast. It is always a pleasure to assist at a local function that also allows us to contribute to our community project funds.
We had 15 people turn up for the cooking and serving, only about half of them are in the picture, but all of them were greatly appreciated.

Our Annual Rotary Walk for Respect is on Saturday, the 11th October

If you are able to attend, wear your Purple Say No to DV polo shirts and hats etc, to come looking wonderful. We’re hoping with Mike Smithson as our MC this year, that the Channel 7 TV News crews will be there as well. Be great to have a heap of Rotarians bold and strong.

Many Rotarians have already registered which is wonderful, but you can register with the link below Registration is FREE and it does help us brief SA Police on numbers we’ll have along.

The Rotary Club of Barossa Valley hosted the three day RYDA program on 16th, 17th & 18th September 2025 for year 11 students from Kapunda High School, Eudunda Area School, Nuriootpa High School and Faith Lutheran College at the Nuriootpa Sports Centre

Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) is a program designed to educate young people about road safety, safe driving practices, and maintaining safe driving conditions.

RYDA features highly engaging and memorable workshops that front-loads students understanding of road safety.
The workshop sessions are designed to be held in small classroom sized groups (approximately 25 students) and are led by a team of trained facilitators, including Police, driving instructors and other community sector specialists.

In 2024, over 680 high schools and 60,000 students participated in RYDA across Australia and New Zealand.

The program included demonstrations of vehicle stopping distances and car safety ratings, awareness of the complex dangers that exist in everyday driving, the importance of the driver's mindset, the police talk on road rules and accident statistics, a session by a recovering accident victim, and a role-play session to identify distractions.

The photo shows some of the students, two of the presenters and one of the Rotary volunteers.
