Todayโ€™s group activity was focused on learning new skills, and our community outing to Kmart Munno Para provided just that, providing opportunities to work towards individual NDIS goals.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Participants collaborated to decide which items were needed for our picnic bag, developing communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

๐Ÿค Throughout the outing, participants practised positive social interactions, community participation, and building confidence when engaging with others in a public setting.

๐Ÿ’ฐ The group also strengthened their independence and daily living skills by navigating the store, budgeting, handling money, making purchases, and understanding the responsibilities involved in shopping.

๐ŸŒฑ Participants demonstrated safe and respectful behaviours within the community while developing self-confidence, personal responsibility, and increased independence.

Experiences like these help build the skills needed for greater community access, social inclusion, and everyday independence, supporting participants to achieve their NDIS goals and live more confidently within the community.

Todayโ€™s learning focus for Home & Community Options participants was on emotions, communication, and social skills through mindfulness meditation. ๐ŸŒฟโœจ

Participants created their own meditation activities and confidently shared their thoughts and ideas with the group.

โญ Craig chose to colour a starfish and butterfly, inspired by thoughts of the beach.

๐ŸŒŠ Brett drew the ocean and rocks, explaining that he enjoys relaxing through diamond art and word puzzles.

๐Ÿšถ Victor and Josh shared that walking is one of their favourite ways to unwind and support their wellbeing.

๐ŸŽต The group also enjoyed listening to their favourite songs and discussing how music influences their emotions and mood.

Barossa Youth Options participants rolled up their sleeves and learned how to make their own delicious homemade doughnuts! From mixing and shaping to cooking and decorating, the group worked together while building valuable cooking and teamwork skills.

To balance out the sweet treats, everyone also completed a 5km walk as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Physical Recreation section. ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Participants recently took time to reflect on the goals they've been working towards and there were plenty of achievements to celebrate.

They have been building healthier habits through regular walking and making positive food choices, while also growing their confidence and independence in the community. From visiting the library and borrowing books independently to getting out and about with greater confidence, it's been wonderful to see everyone's progress.

Now it's time for new goals! The group is looking forward to continuing to develop budgeting skills, building confidence in the kitchen, and learning more practical daily living skills.

A huge well done to everyone for their hard work, determination, and willingness to challenge themselves. We can't wait to see what you achieve next! ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ’™

Participants learnt how to make delicious vegetable and meat pasties โ€“ a simple, healthy recipe packed with a variety of vegetables.

Cooking activities like these are about much more than preparing a meal. Participants develop valuable daily living skills including meal planning, food preparation, kitchen safety, following recipes, making healthy food choices, and building confidence when shopping for ingredients.

Learning about healthy eating supports overall health and wellbeing, including mental health, while helping participants work towards their goals of living more independently.

Working together as a group, participants explored the importance of a balanced diet, practised choosing nutritious ingredients, and developed practical skills they can use every day at home and in the community.
