Barossa Bushgardens

Barossa Bushgardens The Barossa Bushgardens is a community initiative on 13ha that showcases and supplies regional native flora and promotes sustainable Natural Resource use.

The Barossa Bushgardens were established in 2001 by dedicated volunteers wishing to preserve native plants from the Barossa region. The Barossa Bushgardens has grown to become an established community enterprise, education resource, venue, tourist destination and recreation area. The Barossa Bushgardens is a Natural Resource Centre situated adjacent to the North Para River on 13 hectares next to N

uriootpa. The site includes a Botanic Garden, Seed Orchard, Native Plant Nursery, and Community Centre. Showcased are 100 of the Barossa's 400 native plant species. Volunteers have tirelessly worked on developing display gardens, pathways and signage. Largely cared for by volunteers, the Bushgardens are funded by the Barossa Council and the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Natural Resource Management Board with the generous support of local sponsors. We are a reference point for anyone wishing to learn more about regional native plants, natural resource management issues and sustainability. Plants can be ordered or purchased direct from the Nursery.

Creative and Crafty Children!

Become part of a small team, creating one of six native bee artworks to be displayed during the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival during August.

Saturday, 18 July from 10am to 4pm.

Learn about six of our local native bees, including where they live and what plants they need to survive before creating an artwork from recycled materials. You will have help from an experienced artist and parents are welcome to join and help as well.

We've allocated six hours for the whole workshop, including breaks, giving you plenty of time to create something very special.

Join us on 1st August from 10:30am to 11:30am for the official opening event. Enjoy a cuppa around the fire, have a chat to other artists and explore more artworks in the gardens.

Book your free workshop spot at www.barossabushgardens.com.au/events
No booking is required for the opening event on 1st August.

This workshop is supported by Friends of Barossa Bushgardens, The Barossa Council and Green Adelaide.

It's looking like a crisp but sunny Sunday, perfect for Bushgardens Meditation (Bushgardens Zen) at 9.30am, followed by a guided Winter Solstice Labyrinth Walk at 10.30am.

The season of Winter is upon us and the days have become short, cold and wet, drawing us inside where our homes are dry and warm. This hibernation time is valuable in our all too busy lives, as an important seasonal reset to release what we have outgrown and to allow questions to percolate through our bodies, such as what seeds are wanting to be birthed through you? What are you nurturing within yourself over winter that needs tending?

Join us at the Barossa Bushgardens community labyrinth on Sunday June 21st at 10:30am to celebrate the Winter Solstice or shortest day of the year. We will gather in ceremony and reflect on these questions while we walk the labyrinth. We will engage with the myth of the Cailleach or Winter Hag and reflect on its meaning in the context of our modern lives.

And so it begins. Max and Pete from our 'Engineering Department' have installed the first of 16 new information signs. Of couse we needed to make sure that wheelchair users can read them too! 👍🏻😅

The signs give a short explanation about the garden but also have QR codes that can be scanned to access detailed information.

This upgrade is possible thanks to a Bite-Sized Grant from the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board.

A good example of being at the right place at the right time...
During our mosaic workshop at the Nuriootpa Community Children's Centre last month, we were asked by the Director if we could help with some ideas around adding more native plants to the kindy.

One month on and the children helped put around 50 plants into the ground, including groundcovers such as saltbushes, small pollinator attracting daisies and a couple of small shrubs. Our team donated the plants and tree guards for this little project and hope the children will enjoy the flowers.

Are you looking for shrubs to create some screening or maybe want to add some plants to attract pollinators like native bees and butterflies? We've got it!

We are open Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30am to 4:30pm and Wednesday from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
