Our 13 year old lead batteries were replaced with 25 kWh lithium batteries. This cupboard of batteries runs a 6 bedroom house! The technology has changed an awful lot in 13 years #

👋 Meet Jim – he’s just received his personalised Natural Capital Profile for his Bega Valley property, ‘Yambulla’ 🌳

The Yambulla team takes a values-led approach, focusing on sustainability, caring for Country and people, and working closely with the local Indigenous community.

Through the Natural Capital Profile Pilot, they received a tailored profile highlighting the property’s natural and cultural values, along with practical insights to help guide future land management decisions to support both environment outcomes and productivity.

Despite what colonisation has thrown at this landscape (removing all the trees and killing animals that competed for the grass, overgrazing, turning it into a plantation, competing with weeds etc) the herbaceous layer of grasses has persisted.
Our job is to reinstate all the bits that was taken away, to enable a functioning and healthy landscape.

We call Eucalyptus saligna, Sydney Blue Gum, a unicorn species: great timber, fast growing and survives frost and bushfire…
The Yambulla Project seeks the right balance of caring for people and caring for Country while ensuring multi- generational financial security. Trial sites like this teach us a lot and enable us to picture how we might meet those goals.

On Tuesday I along with others presented to 60 odd people at the Aboriginal Farming Forum in Boorowa, put on by Natural Capital Support Services.

It was an inspiring bringing together of indigenous and non-indigenous farmers, LALCs, Landcare, local Councils to strengthen relationships, share knowledge and foster collaboration.

LLS really needs to be congratulated on delivering this sort of forums, everyone there was abuzz that this type of dialogue is possible and can achieve so much
Thanks Mel for organising it.

Yambulla is ok… for now. We hate this feeling of heightened alarm but feel the threat level for us is not significant but tomorrow will be the sh1tty day. Hot, big winds.
Thank you to the first responders who are playing a dangerous game of whack-a-mole and keeping the area under control through trying circumstances.
We drove through Corryong 2 weeks ago and were reminded of the beauty of this part of the border, spare a thought for the people up there being asked to evacuate.

Wedgetail Eagles
With a wing span of over to 2m this is a seriously big bird. And super handsome. These are probably quite young as older birds are darker in colour.
The wildlife camera was directed at a pig trap site we had been trialling using a net from . The trap net was taken down for safe keeping after catching 31 pigs in late winter, the posts remain until next year. The pile of carcasses is behind the camera hence why the crows and eagles we hanging around. Shame we didn’t have the camera pointing the other way, at the feeding frenzy!

‘Jim’s Bundle’ 2024-25
mixed media on paper
Running a guest lodge at Yambulla means you get to meet some very delightful people and Julie is one of them. She inspired us last year with her enthusiasm and keen interest and clearly Yambulla inspired her too.
This piece is part of a show of Julie’s work currently on . ‘Jim’s Bundle’ was a response to the brush packs was placing in the waterways at Yambulla to ‘nudge’ and slow the energy in water flow, enabling banks to repair and heal, lessons learnt from

Sadly tomorrow is this show’s last day, if you are in Paddington, drop by, the works are really lovely.
