Join Bud Organic Club for FREE today on our website! Join Bud Organic Club to learn more about certified organics, healthy living and how organic lifestyle choices could benefit you and your family. Just a few small changes can make a huge difference! Established in 2012, the Bud Organic club originally began as the ‘Bud Organic’ magazine, offering readers insight into how they could live a more o

rganic lifestyle. Fast forward 6 years and Bud Organic Club was reborn with sustainability in mind through the online club we know today. The Bud Organic Club is an initiative launched by Australian Organic Ltd (AOL) to drive consumer awareness around certified organics in Australia. The Bud Club now has over 7,000 members, made up of organic consumers and those interested in learning more about organic living. Established in 1987 (formerly Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA)), AOL is the leading peak industry body lobbying Government and Industry to promote the commercial and social interests of those who are certified and protect the integrity of the certified industry against fraud and fake organics. AOL established an organic certification scheme to independently verify that farmers and processors were producing in accord with those standards and introduced the leading organic certification ‘Bud’ logo. This symbol ensures the integrity of organic products in the marketplace for consumers and is recognised by more than 50 per cent of Australian consumers. COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

Supporting certified organic isn’t an ‘all or nothing’ proposition. Small swaps can make a big difference, and it’s easy to do your part without impacting your weekly shopping budget.
It’s no secret that certified organic foods can be more expensive than their non-organic counterparts due to higher production costs. Despite this, it’s perfectly possible to find certified organic bargains when you shop, so keep an eye out for certification logos this September!

If you’re not able to choose organic at the checkout, there are plenty of other ways you can get involved and apply organic principles, such as home composting or starting a small organic veggie garden.

Follow the link below to this week’s resource; a comprehensive guide featuring a host of great ideas for seeking balance in your organic journey.

Choosing certified organic goes well beyond supporting positive practices for the here and now.
The environmental benefits are significant, with organic farms having higher biodiversity and richer ecosystems on average. Improving soil health is at the heart of organic agriculture, with organic soils retaining higher levels of moisture and boasting improved drought resilience as a result.

When it comes to animal welfare, there are strict rules in place on certified organic farms. Animals including poultry, pigs, sheep, goats and cattle must live, grow and breed naturally in group sizes appropriate to their species, with more space to roam compared to their non-organic counterparts. Cattle feedlots are prohibited, as is battery farming or cage farming of hens.

If you’re committed to living simply and leaving a softer footprint on the earth, there are numerous reasons why you might choose to support organic systems.

Follow the link to access our Week Three Guide which is all about the advantages of certified organics at an environmental level. We have also published a full feature article that provides a deeper dive on the subject.

It’s no secret organic farming promotes higher biodiversity and richer ecosystems, and organic farms are more resilient to variations in climate because their methods increase water conservation and stimulate soil health.
Farmers producing certified organic livestock follow strict animal welfare standards, and farmers growing certified organic fresh fruit and vegetables use sustainable farming methods that imitate natural ecological processes.

To celebrate Australian Organic Awareness Month, we took a closer look at the benefits and challenges of growing certified organic vegetables and livestock.

Which of the benefits of certified organic practices most resonates with you?
Maybe it’s a matter of health for you and your family. Certified organic foods can be more nutritionally dense that non-organic counterparts, as well as reducing dietary exposure to pesticides and their associated health risks. Strict standards are in place around permitted ingredients and practices, so you can be sure that what you’re purchasing is truly organic.

Perhaps you’re interested in supporting organic due to the environmental benefits, as organic farms have lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and higher soil carbon. More carbon in our soil means less in our atmosphere.

Or, it could be that you’re searching for skincare options that are produced with natural ingredients and do not use potentially harmful substances like parabens and synthetics dyes.

Choosing certified organic is a reflection of your values. Check out our Week Two Guide to learn more about the varied benefits of going organic. We’ve also posted a long-form article for those hoping for a deeper dive on the subject.

We all love and care for our beautiful Aussie hens, but what is really going on behind the scenes?

Yes organic may be a slightly more expensive choice, however, the health and treatment of these birds ensures that the product you are getting is the best it can possibly be🐓
