Often woody w**ds need to be felled rather than just cut and poisoned. Actively felling them is the best way to control the direction of fall and minimise collateral damage. In this case, a fairly large radiata pine in the Southern Highlands was not supposed to be on a creek with several threatened native species. The sound is pretty good too.

For those who have been wondering what we've been flat out working on over the past month, this is a small snapshot. A carbon sequestration project had become overrun with w**ds and black wattle which was negatively impacting the growth of the 55,000 gum trees planted in the project. Sustainable forest management requires keeping the lower limbs removed to encourage growth, improve access and control w**d growth.

Wild to***co is in seed now. Bag them if it is practical. Today was a few sites in Kangaroo Valley. Illawarra Subtropical Rainforest can be very quickly degraded if pockets of to***co like this one establish. It shades out the natives that should be filling the gaps.
