Today we celebrate the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi who was the founder of the Franciscan Order. This year is particularly significant as we mark 800 years since Francis’ death in 1226. St Francis lived his life learning to trust God, let go, forgive, love and recognise Christ in others. He reached out to include the poor and underprivileged and he connected deeply with all of life around him. His life continues to be an inspiration. Mount Alvernia College is a ministry of Mercy Partners and educates women in the Franciscan tradition.

Today, we celebrate Mercy Day, commemorating the opening of Catherine McAuley’s first House of Mercy on 24 September 1827. This defining moment in the Mercy story reflects the enduring values of compassion, hospitality, justice and service that continue to shape and inspire Mercy ministries throughout the world.

On this special day, we acknowledge with deep gratitude the Sisters of Mercy, whose faithful witness, leadership and dedication have ensured that Catherine’s vision continues to thrive. Through your commitment and ministry, the Mercy charism remains alive across the works of Mercy Partners, including Mercy Community Group, All Hallows’ School, Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College, Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta, St Patrick’s College Townsville, Mater Health Group, Holy Cross Services and the Mercy Foundation.

As we honour Catherine’s legacy, may her example inspire each of us to respond with courage, compassion and hospitality to those in need, and to continue building communities where mercy is lived and shared every day.

Mercy Partners was honoured to attend the launch of the Archdiocese of Brisbane Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2026-2028 on Friday evening.
The vibrant and welcoming event brought together around 300 people from Catholic organisations and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to celebrate a shared commitment to reconciliation.
Guests were inspired by speaker Aunty Denise Proud focusing on the importance of knowing, doing, and being.
The evening showcased the richness and diversity of First Nations cultures through stunning creations displayed by First Nations stallholders, lively music by Gift, and a delicious, shared meal. Attendees were also treated to captivating cultural performances by the Carmel College First Nations Dance Group and the Wagga Torres Strait Islander Dance Company.
Archbishop Shane Mackinlay launched the new Archdiocesan reconciliation plan for 2026-2028 marking an important milestone for the Archdiocese of Brisbane and reflects a continued commitment to meaningful action, stronger relationships, and deeper understanding with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Mercy Partners is proud to support and participate in initiatives that honour the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations peoples, and that help build a more just and reconciled community for all.

Please support the Whitefriars College boys in their pursuits to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation to help fund life-changing blood cancer support and research.

$17,572 raised — and counting! 💙

Last Friday was a wonderful example of the Whitefriars community at its best, as students and staff came together for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

There was plenty of laughter as hair was shaved, cut and coloured, but behind the fun was an important purpose: standing in solidarity with people and families affected by blood cancer and raising funds to support vital services and research.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our students, families, staff and wider community, Whitefriars College has now raised $17,572.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who put themselves forward, supported their mates, donated or helped make the event possible. It was a day filled with courage, compassion and the kind of community spirit we hope our young men carry well beyond Whitefriars.

As we move beyond the winter months and reflect on the significant work undertaken across our ministries during this past season, we feel refreshed and renewed in our commitment to supporting ministry efforts and living out our shared values of compassion, justice, respect, and hope.

💧🌏 Today marks the beginning of the Season of Creation, an annual ecumenical celebration of prayer and action to care for our common home.
Running from 1 September, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, to 4 October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, this year's theme is "Living Water."
As ecological challenges deepen around the world, the theme reminds us that water is essential for all life and highlights the urgent reality that access to clean, safe water is still unequal for many communities.
May this season inspire us to listen to both the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor, and to act with hope and compassion. 💙
