Perth Rotary Club celebrated the commencement of their Centennial Year of celebrations with a legacy luncheon held at the Hotel Friday 19 June. Nobel Laureate Prof Barry Marshall and Elizabeth Perron of the Perron Group were guests of honour. Along with the Right Honourable Lord Mayor, Bruce Reynolds; Leader of the Opposition Basil Zempilas MLA; Hon Pierre Yang representing the Premier; Dr Bob Olivier, Pro-Chancellor UWA; Prof Charlene Kahler, CEO Marshall Centre; Steven Carulli, Perron Group and Robert McKenzie of the Perron Institute, District Governor Veronica Lawrance and many Rotarians and guests. We listened to a pre-recorded key note address from Richard Goyder AO; President Jill Dawson OAM; Prof Barry Marshall AC & Rotarian Dimitri Tsagaris. Past President Phil Harvey was made an Honorary Member of the club in recognition of his past service. The Book of Graces was launched and is available for purchase at the club. $25/book. A fabulous collection of observations and short stories of the Perth Rotary Club by the Very Reverend Dr John Shepherd AM. The introduction to the book was penned by David de Vos and Dean Alston has allowed several of his cartoons to be included. Both Dean and David were awarded a Paul Harris Fellow in acknowledgement of their contribution and Nan Walker and Reverend John the Presidents Award. Past President Manu Gupta was awarded the John Garland AM Membership Award for 2026 in recognition of his significant contribution to the membership of the club.
The day was capped off with an auction to raise funds for our Centennial Project, the Barry Marshall Research Institute for Infectious Diseases. (BMRIID)
