We are aware of the recent incident in Canberra involving a Chinese woman, which has raised serious concerns within the community.

Recent media reports of a Chinese woman being subjected to a serious violent attack in Canberra, allegedly involving racist abuse and escalating to a knife threat, are deeply shocking and concerning.

We strongly condemn all forms of violence and racism. Such acts not only harm the safety and dignity of individuals, but also undermine the values of diversity, inclusion and the rule of law that Australia stands for.

Chung Wah Association has long been committed to promoting community cohesion and cultural exchange. We firmly believe that the vast majority of Australians respect multiculturalism and reject all forms of hatred and discrimination. Isolated incidents must not and do not represent the broader society.

We call on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, and to hold those responsible accountable under the law, ensuring that the victim receives proper protection and justice.

We also call on all sectors of society to work together to oppose racism and violence, and to safeguard the safety and harmony of our communities.

Chung Wah Association will continue to monitor the situation closely and engage with relevant stakeholders to advocate for the safety and wellbeing of the Chinese community.

Last night’s Multicultural Evening Concert was a wonderful way to bring the day to a close at the Perth Chinese New Year Fair.

The program featured a diverse mix of performances, including an orchestra showcase, choir with band accompaniment, dance pieces, vocal duets, instrumental solos on the erhu and dizi, a trio ensemble, a soprano solo, and a Tai Chi presentation. Together, they reflected the range of cultures, talents and traditions within our community.

The variety of performances created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, giving people the chance to enjoy the music and movement at their own pace as the evening unfolded.

And we’re not done yet. As the sun starts to set, there’s plenty more to come this evening, with exciting performances still ahead and the energy continuing to build.
