Each year, 20 June marks World Refugee Day (the culmination of Refugee Week, 14-20 June), which honours people who have been forced to flee.

Together, we can champion their right to seek safety, build support for their economic and social inclusion, and advocate for solutions to their plight.

Our Wheatbelt communities have been built through the strength of many different people and cultures who have contributed over many decades, from the traditional owners to our multicultural communities of today.

Share & Care welcomes everyone who lives in the Wheatbelt and we are here to help in times of need 💜

We are saddened to hear about the passing of Anne Moore, a respected colleague and tireless advocate for women experiencing family and domestic violence 🕊️

Our condolences to Anne’s family, friends and colleagues at the Lucy Saw Centre Association. She will be deeply missed.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved CEO, Anne Moore, on Saturday morning.

Anne dedicated almost 40 years to our organisation, serving as CEO for more than 30 of those years. Throughout her career, she was a tireless advocate for women, leading with compassion, determination, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others.

Her extraordinary contributions were recognised through her nomination for Australian of the Year and as a finalist for the WA Senior Australian of the Year Awards. Anne was a true trailblazer for women’s rights, leaving an enduring legacy that has changed history so many women’s lives and strengthened our community.

Anne’s favourite phrase was ‘Do good and care not to whom’ - a testament to her commitment to community and advocacy. Anne’s leadership, vision, and kindness will be deeply missed by our staff, supporters, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

It’s a common question that we hear in relation to family and domestic violence: “Why doesn’t she just leave?”

It’s not that simple.

There are many barriers that can stand in the way of a woman leaving an abusive partner.

Leaving is the most dangerous time for a victim-survivor – so support and safety planning is critical.

It’s important that women are supported and empowered to make the best decision for them while holding the abusers accountable for their behaviour.

If you, or someone you know is in immediate danger, call Triple Zero (000) for police.

Share & Care is here to help keep women and children safe. If you’re a woman experiencing or escaping FDV, you can self refer to one of our refuges. Our free call crisis lines are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

Did you know the number of people coming to Share & Care for both emergency relief and for homeless support is increasing?

Amid the current cost of living challenges, we are currently seeing 50 new clients per month who have never previously sought emergency relief.

People can experience these challenges for many reasons, including job loss, health crisis, family and domestic violence, drug and alcohol addiction, and mental health issues.

Experiencing financial hardship, or being homeless in winter is an incredibly tough and vulnerable experience.

You can help by donating to our Winter Appeal 💜

A big thank you to the sharing, caring people of our communities for your donations, from all of us at Share & Care 💜

Members of our team visited the new Perth warehouse increasing food donations to WA charities, including Share & Care!

SecondBite’s big new facility in Kewdale – funded with support from Lotterywest – is enabling them to rescue more surplus food and distribute it to where it’s needed in the community.

Share & Care partnered with SecondBite in April to help get nutritious meals to people experiencing hunger across the Wheatbelt.

Our visit to the SecondBite warehouse was a great opportunity to understand more about how the surplus food is collected from farmers, retailers and manufacturers, including fruit, vegetables, pantry items, protein and dairy.

And a wonderful chance to say ‘thank you’ to SecondBite on behalf of our communities benefiting from their support.
