MacKillop Seasons

MacKillop Seasons MacKillop Seasons help build the wellbeing and resilience of communities following adversity.

MacKillop Seasons' programs aim to strengthen the social and emotional well being of people who are experiencing major life changes and losses such as death, separation and divorce by supporting them to explore the impact of change and loss on everyday life and to learn new ways to respond. Written by Professor Anne Graham and built upon J William Worden’s theory of grief, our flagship program Sea

sons for Growth is an innovative grief and loss education program that uses the imagery of the seasons to illustrate the experience of grief. Our education programs are evidence based, and many external evaluations over the years have continued to affirm Seasons for Growth and its contribution to the lives of people touched by loss and grief. Throughout its 20 year lifespan the Seasons for Growth Children and Young People’s Program has gone through three iterations to incorporate new evidence and ensure that it continues to provide a relevant and highly valued experience for participants. Over its lifetime, over 200,000 children and young people have participated in the Seasons for Growth Program, along with thousands of adults.

National Sorry Day (National Day of Healing)

Today we acknowledge the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors and reflect on the role we all play in supporting healing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and for our nation.

At MacKillop, many of the children, young people, families and communities we walk alongside are survivors of the Stolen Generations. We invite everyone to pause, reflect, and consider the significance of this day and its lasting impact across generations.

https://www.reconciliation.org.au/national-sorry-day-from-sorry-to-action/

National Sorry Day marks more than 150 years of policies that led to the forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families. First observed on 26 May 1998 following the Bringing Them Home Report, this day calls on all Australians to remember, learn, and act with respect.

At a time when racism and disrespect continue to be experienced in our communities, we stand in solidarity, committed to listening, acknowledging truth, and supporting healing.

MacKillop Seasons’ Crystal Evry and Eliza Munro (Gamilaroi) were present at this week’s AbSec Quarterly Sector Forum, alongside Aboriginal young people, AbSec members, partners and community to connect, listen and learn. 💛❤️🖤
AbSec’s Quarterly Sector Forums play an important role in bringing together carers, community support workers, corporates, members and broader sector partners. These forums create space to share updates, strengthen professional networks, seek guidance, explore innovative solutions, and help shape the future of child protection and family support for Aboriginal communities.
As part of the program, Eliza shared information about MacKillop Seasons’ First Nations programs and resources, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the organisation and the range of programs and supports available.
Mandaang Guwu (thank you) to AbSec and Mounty Aboriginal Youth & Community Services (MAYCS) for hosting. A special Mandaang Guwu to the many young people who shared their lived experiences, offering valuable insights to inform service delivery and strengthen outcomes for young people across NSW.

Stories that connect us 💬✨

Our MacKillop Seasons team attended the Together for Humanity Annual Fundraiser 2026, an inspiring afternoon of connection, purpose and impact.

Over a shared lunch, “Stories that connect us” came to life through powerful reflections from students and teachers who have experienced the programs first-hand. Their voices highlighted the real and lasting impact of creating spaces that foster understanding, belonging and inclusion.

We were also treated to a moving performance by renowned pianist Simon Tedeschi, adding to a truly memorable and meaningful event.

We’re proud to stand alongside organisations championing positive change and excited that Together for Humanity will be joining us at the Lead the Way Conference 2026 to continue these important conversations.

🎟️ Early bird tickets are now on sale until 31 May:

🧡The MacKillop Seasons team was on Gunaikurnai Country (Lakes Entrance, Gippsland VIC) last week attending the National Indigenous Disaster Resilience (NIDR) Gathering 2026.

The Gathering was a powerful, multi day event celebrating First Nations leadership and excellence in emergency management, community recovery, disaster resilience and caring for Country. The Gathering created spaces to connect, listen, learn and share knowledge through Indigenous led conversations on disaster mitigation, response and recovery.

Across the three days, participants engaged in keynote addresses, panel discussions, workshops and on Country experiences, deepening an understanding of the vital work being led by Indigenous communities in Gippsland, across Australia and around the world.

Throughout the Gathering, MacKillop Seasons staff Crystal Evry (Wiradjuri), Jo Quinn, and Brooke Nester connected with delegates to share information and resources on MacKillop Seasons programs, particularly the Stormbirds Disaster Readiness Initiative and Seasons for Healing.

Stormbirds is a small group education program that supports the resilience and recovery of children and young people in response to change, grief, loss and uncertainty that often results from natural disasters.

Similarly, the Seasons for Healing program supports the social and emotional wellbeing of First Nation adults to build resilience and keep Spirit strong through the journey of grief, loss and change.

MacKillop Season’s Eliza Munro (Gamilaroi) shared learnings on ecological grief, highlighting the environmental impacts of climate change and natural disasters on the social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of communities.

Maarubaa nginda (Thanks you) to the NIDR Gathering committee, Jagun Alliance, Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust and the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation for the invaluable learning experience. Most importantly, maarubaa nginda to the many Elders and knowledge holders for sharing their wisdom and expertise to support disaster recovery and resilience.
